Yes, and also, get a rider on your insurance for your jewelry. It's usually really cheap, and appraisals really help cover the cost of inflation/gold price increases.

No kidding on the inspections, Wife was several months overdue on the inspection.
In order for the insurance we bought to pay for a lost stone we had to have the setting checked every 6 months.
She was around 9 months since the last inspection.

Interesting. I bet my plan has a similar criteria. What's sufficient to constitute "getting it checked?" Do you have to keep track of paperwork? Does it have to be a jeweler, or some insurance dude?

My SO's diamond is full-on bezel set in platinum, which doesn't deform particularly easily, so I never thought it'd be even remotely likely to get dislodged. I figured she'd just lose the whole ring one day. Getting it checked out twice a year sounds like a perfunctory hassle.

It's not so bad. A trip to the mall (Kay's), drop off the stuff that needs to be inspected, and either wait for it or come back in half an hour. They clean everything while they have it, too.

There is a punch line to go with this but I'll leave it to others to print it. I am laughing though.

That ring is about the only thing she owns that is 18 years old. I am chalking this up to "sometimes crap happens"
The insurance we bought, is through Rogers Jewelers. We have to take it to them for inspections. As posted earlier if you call ahead it takes less than an hour and while you are there, you are very well taken care of. The ring is steam cleaned and polished as a plus. They will even check any other jewelry she is wearing.
    They are a good business.
