Windscreen Disgust ...... again

    Um yeeeaaahhh..... a picture is worth a thousand words and I did the opposite....:D I write these from work so can't upload anything.

    KTRMN8R gets most of it though. Is there a pocket version of you?


    Your picture is almost there. Turn the front duct around so it's like a flush hood scoop on a funny car. And, I'm not sure you need the two on the side. Then, seal the top space between your two screens so that air can only escape from the rear sides.

    Is anyone using an Eagle Screen, They are based in Perth Western Australia. If you are, what height is your screen and How tall are you. I'm 6' but i dont really want a screen that is any higher If I can avoid it, but I also like the protection that my torso gets from the stock screen.

    OK, here is my attempt:

    All this did was to move the roar from around 75-80 MPH down to the 65-70 MPH range.:baldy I may try opening the holes more.:scratch

    I tried no mirrors and it was just slightly better, so that is not it. When I put one mirror back on it was a little better than with no mirrors.

    My ears were ringing last night after riding all day even though I was wearing plugs.

    The beak on the XD is definately getting a resonance going on. I can just touch it and the roar all but disappears. I am going to re-enforce it like some here have said to stop that. I think I will then start cutting the screen down a couple of inches at a time. I am sure that eventually, with a combination of remedies, this will be a non-issue. At any rate, summer is almost here and I can go back to the fully cut down screen anyway.

    I also tried no mirrors with little benefit. Removing the windscreen, however, created a joyous silence. Also happens if I lift my ass off the seat several inches. So I'm going to try cutting about 4" off the screen.

    Gordy, I know this is a bit late, but just holes may not equalize the air pressure. I have seen others use a NACA duct style pattern cut to help the air flow. Ricky did that a few years ago and posted about it.

    Here is a stock photo of an after market NACA duct. I have seen tiny ones around someplace.

    I went skiing this weekend so didn't get on here to respond.

    Does anyone know where to get plain sheets of thin clear polycarbonate, like the current shield? And what kind of glue makes that stuff stick to itself? I still believe the ultimate solution would be to pull air from the front and redirect it to the sides while also using a hoodscoop to prevent some air from going over the top.

    Read the classic threads on this subject. Everything has been tried. Consensus is that the NACA ducts are the most effective. Well ... maybe not consensus but those who did them swear my em. In this very thread even.

    Not to go against the common wisdom but the NACA ducts at the front don't seem to be real NACA ducts. They're just a hole with an airstream redirecting wall.

    I don't even think a true NACA duct works here or is even necessary. I'm talking about harnessing the "ram effect" of the air stream to compress air and have it flow faster out of the rear sides, and possibly top, of the windshield to counteract the negative pressure immediately behind the windshield.

    The hood is necessary to help gather a large volume of air.

    BTW, I found that bending polycarbonate requires some complex techniques. So that's out. I'll see if I can rough something together from something found online.
