Saw lots of people out riding, was a beautiful day for it.
Im from Indiana and gonna be staying north of Mt. Airy over the 4th of July weekend. Ive got three days to ride in the area and want to go up into the Blue Ridge Mts. Never been in the area and dont know any roads, so Im interested in finding out what I will run into on the back roads up in the hills. If its gravel and dirt I will bring the XR400. If its a little gravel and mostly paved I would bring the VStrom. Any suggestions ? Thanks
Send a private message to ERRORCOOLED and include your normal e mail address he will send you the blue ridge trail a work in progress. this is as good as I have found in Virginia . if your headed down in n.c. I can give you some input.
Rode Saturday it was fantastic!
Unless you get some real good scoop on some trails here from locals I think you will find that the strom will be good enough for dirt/gravel NFS off of the parkway. Your not too far from Meadows of Dan. You may want to check out http://www.willvillebikecamp.com/ they would likely have some advice on roads and I hear are very friendly.
Belcher Mountain road is a fun dirt road that goes up the mountain near medows of dan. You can also gleam the Squrel at Squrel Spur rd.
When are you heading to the Linville area next? I'd be interested in tagging along.
did some one say Linville are let me know if a plan get started I my try to get in on the ride
If i'm off Saturday would that be to soon. haul to Lenoir? opinions?
I could haul one extra bike.
I have no idea what the forest roads are like at this time.
There is a lot of loose gravel the entire length of Belcher Mountain Road that has been put down over the last 3 weeks. Much worse than last June's treatment. The flat section on the top of the ridge is worse than the climb up the hill.
Saturday is clear for me.
hey kickstand72 I'll know tomorrow if I can ride Saturday if I go i'll be hauling the bike up there
Meet at Lenoir mc donalds near 321 and 18 crossroad at 10:00 a.m. Actualy on 18. short ride from there to the forest service roads. plan to ride Wilson creek area to old 105 and around. Maybe find some new roads. I'll bring an atlas.
Of course any one is welcome. Lots and lots of gravel....
I'd love to tag along, I've got family obligations Saturday evening though. That's a bummer too, I just put on a new d606 and FMF header. In the process of installing the header I was able to sort out a lean pop I was getting on decel. The bike is running great right now, I wish I could go beat on it a little.
As and aside, a few weeks ago I took my daughters camping up in the Wilson Creek area, got to take them for rides on the FSR's. Beautiful area, want to go back with more time to explore.
Accelerator pump on an fcr carb? No fowl hopefully I will be able to go again soon. Planning to camp at brown mnt. ohv with my son soon. He wants to ride at night and look for the famous Brown Mnt lights. Boogity boo...
Hope this place is open. Always closed when I'm up the way.
Nice one, both of my daughters had a blast up in Pisgah the other weekend, we'll definitely be doing that again.
I'm in the neighborhood (Fries Va) and I've got the R100GS ready to go...
Check your PM's for contact info. The riding around here is fantastic, gravel or paved, a mix of both is best IMHO. I can show you a few roads to knock your sox off.
Hey Lost! How are you and the fam?
I am headed down towards W/S on Friday, riding with a buddy from W/S, trying to talk him into some gravel or maintained dirt West of the W/S area. You got any recommendations?
