Kevin, Todd,Tony and Josh, had a great time. Thanks guys for all your planning. Things don't always go as planned, good or bad ( Todd's " soil sample the exception), is what creates great memories,,,, everything going to plan, can be boring and forgettable. I don't think thats the ADVer lifestyle. Adversity shapes who we are,, overcoming adversity, IS the adventure.

One thing that did go as Kevin planned, was his kickstand. Kevin meticulously planned the demise of ,to precisely end at rides end! Amazing! IMG_20170507_155409066.jpg

Thanks Jim and you are of course correct. In general the problems aren't the issue it's how you deal with them that makes the difference! As for the sidestand :muutt lol.

Kevin thanks for the ride report sorry I had to bail at the last moment but felt my broke ribs would have been a anchor on the group, Kudos to Todd:thumb for soldiering on as know somewhat of how he was feeling. BTW OXYCODONE works pretty good but DUI is probably not recommended for a 2day D/S ride:rofl

D2 (et al) we're going back to the UP the weekend of June 24/25. Rough plan is to meet somewhere around Boulder Junction on Friday eve. and then run up to Copper Harbor and back (tenting probably). Trip will be around 450 miles again and based on Cannon's BB UPAT GPS trails with a little slicing and dicing using some numbered forest trails to make the mileage work.

Space for you and one other if you're still interested, let me know!

Are you planning to ride big bikes for this one? I can give you a great custom track for this trip. About 400 miles with camping at the tip, although it may not start in Boulder Junction. I'd like to see you have the best experience you can with the time available.

I have a trail school going in Vilas County this week. I'll work up something for you folks when I get back. It will be a nice mix of surfaces, scenery, and POIs. I'll build it so you have a little more travel time for getting home Sunday evening.

We'll see. I go to the ortho Thursday to check out the broken hand which will likely need surgery. The twisted knee feels better daily. Then there is that whole other matter of a likely totaled bike. But one step at a time.

As promised, I put together a custom track for you that runs from Eagle River to the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula and back.

It is a great mix of pavement, gravel, ORV, two-track and contains a lot of interesting POIs to explore along the way. The route starts in Eagle River and runs clockwise. The first day is Eagle to the tip of the Keweenaw (camp at High Rock Bay) and is about 231 miles. This distance makes for a comfortable pace with plenty of time to explore. The return trip is 189 miles which makes for a shorter day for travel home on a Sunday. Total mileage is 420 miles with no fuel constraints for big bikes.

There are some pavement jumps to gain you a few miles and time versus riding a railroad grade for an extended period. There are also some fabulous paved shore roads to enjoy.

This will be a fun and comfortable ride with a lot of nice riding and interesting stops along the way. I might have to ride this myself on my Tenere sometime this summer as it would be a comfortable overnighter.

    Download the track here.

So, i finally got around to putting a ride report together with regards to the Keweenaw ride in doing so we covered around 740 plus miles in just 2 days. An epic, if not somewhat wet weekend! With special thanks to Josh, Jim, Todd and Cannon for the tracks!

    cheers, MK.
