Wish I was a headlight, on a northbound Train, I'd shine my light through the cool Colorado rain! :clap

Here we go, less the 30 days to go.
Last year, I was snuggled up with the girl of my dreams and told here, some day, we need to take a year off, hope on the bike, and go thatta way. She agreed. Somehow, life takes some funny turns, suddenly, here it is. I am turn 50, she just turned 30. I am pretired, she gets a one year LOA from here management job at a fortune 500 company.
The bike is my 2004 concours, with a sweet 18 cubic feet, aluminum trailer behind it, so we have enough space i hope. She gets to carry her stuff on the trail, i get the tank bag, right?

We have a basic plan and its simple, no plans!
Well, ok, we do have some plans.
July 1, we take off, eh? The idea is to get out of the Northeast as quickly as possible. As much as we despise the slab, we have decided to blast across the rustbelt, and past the windy city of Chicago, and then settle in to the rhythm of the road. Once were in Wisconsin, we plan to slow it down, two hundred miles a day at most.
We have one month to get to Vancouver, we are booked on a 10 day cruise to Alaska. Initially we planned to have the bike shipped p on a barge, but after looking at the costs and time factors, we decided not to. So we get a nice 10 day break, see some beautiful sights, and enjoy the cruise. Fly back to Vancouver and start meandering down the coast. We are looking to book a timeshare for a week in september in Sonoma valley, just so we can tour the wineries. After that, were expecting to follow the warm weather south. We have another timeshare booked in Sedona in November, should be a nice time to be there. From there, we plan to head south of the border, we have a resort booked on the beach of Acapulco for Christmas!! We expect to stay down yonder till sometime in late feburary, when we plan to pop back into the USA around Padre Island, Texas. Hopefully its warm enough. If not were ok with staying till march or so. After that, we cruise the gulf coast, we have the option of a timeshare in Mobile, Alabama if we want, or we might just head to Floriduh, we have family in FT Meyers, and Jax. Early April finds us head back to reality, via Nashville, and the spine of the Appalachians till we land back in the great state of row dylin, hopefully by late May 2014, with a better tan then when we left.

I will be updating this ride report as we travel, but the daily stuff will be on our blog.
Were close to actually being ready, the bike has new tires, fresh oils, filters, plugs, brake pads, and lots of time spent checking everything. Should be no problems. The trailer is sweet, lightweight, lots of storage space, empty weight of 185 pounds. We have a nice 4 person tent with a huge vestibule, new bags, new pads, and a hope to actually be able to enjoy camping. Cooking might be a challenge for one of us, but I am sure I wont starve.

When that door slammed shut - you crawled through a pretty god damn nice window I tell you what.

Keep the rubber side down and enjoy the ride.

Were getting closer! Only 20 days to go. We just ordered the new GPS, and locking mounts. Need to get to Twisted Throttle to pick up her new jacket and some heated gear. Still need to go to REI for cooking gear. The bike has new tires, bearings and the hitch is installed and wired for lights.
The trailer is assembled, and looks ready to go.
    The anticipation is building! :clap

    T-7

Counting down the days till departure.
    Where are we at
Lets see now, we have just finished buying heated gear and controls at twisted throttle, along with some nice waterproof coats, a fresh pair of Alpinestar riding boots,
Mounted the new Garmin Montana 600 on the bike, working on a mount for the spot tracker and phone/iPod also.
The trailer is bout ready, did some prelimanary packing, and took a test ride with it, its actually prettyneasy to haul back there. Pivots nicely, and doesnt feel heavy at all. I am fabricating a gas jug mount for the back, as well as a place for an extra 12v battery, which I will have connected to a solar charger for back up, and maybe to run some of the heated gear off.
We still have to pick up a jet boil, and a small gas stove at REI this week, as well as some simple cookware,
We are having a going away party saturday night in Coventry, RI, any local inmates are welcome to stop over for a few cold refreshing beverages or ?

And then there was ONE! :clap
    And we are good-ta-go!
Well, almost that is, we have most of the work done on the rig, and 99% of the gear purchased!
Looks like Monday 1-July-13 promptly at the crack of noon, we hit the road. I am planning no time in the rustbelt states, just a big getdafuckouttahere ride. Slab all the way to Madison, Wisconsin. Trying to be there by Thursday the 4th of July. We hope to visit the Frank Lloyd Wright house Tailiesin, and then we back off the throttle, and work our way west. Several local inmates have offered up some delish route choices, as well as a guided tour here an there!
Our next destination will be the Badlands of South Dakota, spend a bit of time there, then head towards Yellowstone to smell the geysers and peek at the Tetons, Hoy!

Oh, we seem to have found some extra room, any volunteers?
All ya need to bring is your own bungee cords :lol3

    And so it begins, :clap
Monday 1-July-2013, all the packing is packed, all the loading is loaded all the butterflys are buttered, um, wait, who ordered the butter for the butterflys?
Up at 6am, trying to find something I forgot, but as I was looking, I forgot what I was looking for. Fuck it, musta not needed it.
After breakfast, we washed down the last good cuppa kawfee till we get toe Seattle. Head out to the rig, get the picture wizard to take a picture or 16, yup, we look so happy to go.

11am and were finally on RT95 south, and the weather sucks. Capitol SUCKS into Connecticut, and look, its worse. We zip up Rt 9, and cross over RT-66, wishing the dark clouds would blow south. We duck into a subway for lunch, and linger a bit, figuring it will help us dodge the rain. Yea, right. As soon as we hit RT-84, it starts raining, not just light sprinkles, serious rain. On and off into NY, it finally eases up, and we can get motoring. The rig feels pretty good, I will have to move some weight around a bit, but it pulls easy, and follows right behind me! As we approach the PA line, we need to get gas, and looking west, we realize, were fucked.

As we cross through the promised land state park, the sky opens up, and we get dumped on. Lucky we got the new rain gear from Twisted $hawn, big help. We pull off to wait it out a bit, and eat some lousy bagels. Of course it starts again once we do. Fuck it, the sky west looks better, so we motor on towards Scranton. Once we hit RT-81 south, we actually see some Sun! :clap. Figures, were 300 miles into the day, and tired. Looks like its time for a motel in Wilkes Barre.

Tuesday 2-July-2013. Up at 7:30, and well taken care of!! :lol3
On the road by 10 after a crappy continental breakfast at the Econolodge. Goal is to just slad it out RT-80 towards Toledo. Snoooore! Yea, it was that fun.
Highlite of the day was seeing the speed limit signs that show 70 mph. :freaky
We just cranked out 350 miles, and after monkey butt sits in, we pulled into the Motel 6 in Cleveland. Boo-Yaa!
Tomorrow we continue on the slab, westbound, maybe we can get to Gary, Indiana ? Then again, if we actually stop there, we shouldnt! :lol3

the ride begins! Along with great adventure comes some shitty weather and the occasional hardship.. Just keep in mind that the worst situations you encounter will be the best memories of trip. There's some truth in that "whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger" concept..

unless there are amputations or deaths or something.. Then disregard this post please..

hopefully the only injury I read about in this thread is a sore ass or two due to too many hours in the saddle.. Riding in the rain towards an unknown destination VS driving to work tomorrow morning.. I'm still JEALOUS!
