    Thinner air at altitude reduces aerodynamic drag significantly. Also poses problems with getting enough air in engines, but turbo or superchargers can overcome that. Add altitude and warm temps and the air is real thin.

    I’ve never had the pleasure of going fast enough for aerodynamic drag to be a factor. The air is thinner I see your point. You could swim in water faster than swim in oil.

    Yes but the resistance to move through oil would be greater.
    Stir a bucket of water then stir oil.

    Oil, Higher viscosity, lower density.

    Density altitude is why planes fly so high, saves fuel
