    Day 6

My last day of biking in Costa :cry I slept in a little and headed out around 11am after another steak & eggs breakfast......still had a little hangover from last night.

Here's the path I took back to San Jose....all slab on the trans america hwy......I need to be in San Jose by 6pm to give my girl back to Thorston....it's 300+km My flight leaves at 11am Day 7. :cry

One last pic of the rainforest as I leave La Cruz.....I don't wanna go home.

I can understand why sport bikers luv what they do.....the ride to San Jose was way fun....LOTS of curves...hills....mountains.....and room to go fast and pass trucks & cars :D This bike may have been a pig in the tight stuff but it could really lean and go on the slab. :deal

A pic of the slab.....300km of this....way fun. [IMG]

Overall the Trip was fun and cheap.....
    Airfare $275
    Bike Rental $300
Cash Brought Along $400.......of which $60 was left after paying for parking at Ft Lauderdale Airport
    Credit card purchases $46

Total Cost $961......Damn that was cheap....YOU GOT TO TRY IT!!!!!

Helluva ride! Very nice. I was in that area this passed summer. Why do you say the tensions felt high at the border? Went through there and it was fine..... you shoulda tried the fumigator. :evil

Plan is for this coming summer to ride to the Darien Gap in Panama and back to Louisiana.

I love Costa Rica. Very nice RR :thumb

Excellent! I truly enjoyed reading your ride; you hve now planted an idea of a possible adventure. The price is perfect too; so how was the rental guy to work with?

I gotta give him credit where credit is due.....no problems at all...Wild Riders was great......but lets get to the security deposit......they only asked for $85 for damages......for the riding I did and I broke the tach/speedo mounting bracket....plus some good scuffs & scratches...lol....and a turn signal.

I told them I look forward to using them again and Thorston said give us a little notice and we'll get ya a bike that already has some scratches :rofl

    Boy, now I do! :clap

p.s. - You said that there was a good 300km of pavement - if a body wanted to go down there and just tear up the pavement as well as the local scene (in a benevolent way), you think that'd be possible?

Thanks for the report. I have a friend who is building a duplex house in Brasilito, just north of Tamarindo. So, I'm always checking ride reports that go towards South America, looking for pictures and impressions of CR. You provided the best pictures and info, I've seen.

Can't wait until my friend's house is finished so I can go and see it myself, and try a little off-roading too.

Now we're talking about the kind of "trip of a lifetime" that even a humble insurance adjuster can save towards. You think if I paid $50 extra on the rental they'd put in new tubes? I'm not fixin' flats on a vacation. :shog

Great report. Thanks for sharing. :bow :bow :bow

Outstanding pictures and captions!! And you did all this solo?!?!:eek1
I guess it must be safe for an American to travel alone in CR.

Did you have to do a lot of research and planning to come up with your route or kind of put it together on the fly?
(this coming from a guy who's lived in Cali. for 42 years and never been further away than Utah).:doh

Being in Oz I knew SFA about Costa.

Looks like a nice place to explore.

I've had a couple of NX 650's, that NX 400 looks much more practical for off road. Lower seat and lighter weight.

    Nice report and pics mate.

    Cheers: Jaq.

Thanks for all the comments, it was a fun. :D The trip was a last minute thing so I didn't have time to any planning and research....just a couple nights on the net and a little google earth.

No reservations, cept for the bike, just a map and a compass :lol3 It was fun not knowing were I was going to end up.

:rofl Thanks, but I think you're giving me way to much credit....the only real organizing and planning I did was to ensure I always had h2o and tools to keep the bike going.

The bike had new tubes and tires when they gave it to me....thats why I didn't leave till 10am the first day it was getting new rubber.

I deserved every flat I got.....a one inch thorn will do that. Just gotta be prepared or stay on the slab. :D

Having spent a bunch of time in Montezuma, CR I know exactly where that photo with your bike was taken. Great town and best of all a good jump off point for adventures on the Nicoya Pennisula.
Glad you such a great time in Rica....pura vida! :clap
