I have been PM'ing with Kailey and just a few minutes ago I spoke with her Father Ron on the phone.

This was necessary to confirm his permission to allow Kailey to have her own ADV account since she is a minor. To safe guard her, she will be restricted/banned from the Basement.

There are some ends to tie up but we hope this will happen soon.

Ron was very OK with her having access and I hope this will give the young lady rider a place to share her own riding and wrenching stories.

Well, I’ve gone and done it…

I bought the domain name wrenchingwenches.com, .net and .org.

Holy SHIT, what have I’ve done? :uhoh

The concept is to bring women together in a supportive learning environment where they can gain courage and confidence to work on and repair their bikes.

I hope men with the temperament and patience to teach will join as well.

A series of events and people popping out of nowhere to offer their services and help has given me the courage to attempt to start my own forum.

While traveling this September, I met Jon aka NikonsAndVStroms who offered his services to build a site if I ever wanted to build based on an idea I had.

Then this week somebody over on Kbikes.com Ocelot offered to walk me thru buying a domain and how to set it up.

AND he said he would host it for free!

    http://www.k-bikes.com/forums/showthread.php?p=170856#post170856

Ocelot aka Davis and I talked on the phone and I got a good feeling about him.

Others have come forward like GSbiker, geode, Smithy and some from other forums to offer help and advise. :bow

    So, there ya have it.

There is also a HUGE amount of stuff that needs to take place and get done before it goes live, so it will be at least 3-6 months.

    On a side note:

It was brought to my attention that ‘wenches’ might be seen as a bit demeaning term to use. The thought added that some women would see like that also.

I understand where the comment came from.

The word has less than a noble history. But its older meaning is that of a milk main, a woman of simple and poor means. http://www.audioenglish.net/dictionary/wench.htm

Yes, it has a dark side, but in America, it almost never used as a derogatory or demeaning term.

Among women, we often call each other wench or heifer, but only as a term of rough affection. Like men use bastard or some other sideways term that only close friends can get away with.

These are "slap on the butt" words, if you know what I'm saying.

I want to avoid looking too formal so as not to make people feel like they wouldn't be welcome.

I want it to sound fun and casual, like the way a garage does when the beers come out and everyone sits around looking at what they just finished fixing.

I would really like to hear your thoughts on what you would like in such a forum. :ear

wrenchingwenches.com - I like it. :thumb It's a lighthearted name and I think a gal who's going to tear into her own bike will already have a sense of humor.

Good luck and lots of positive thoughts being sent your way for this to turn out just as you vision it.

Now about the name, truthfully I probably wouldn't visit a site with that name. In my circle of friends/workmates we would never call each other wench or heifer. Perhaps it's just different in different parts of the United States. :dunno Or it could just be me.

Here's to a successful forum. :thumb

I think for most people, 'wench' doesn't carry bad connotations, just informal ones. The ones who would be offended by the term are probably so devoid of a sense of humor that you wouldn't want to have them on the site anyway.

I will be signing up, for sure. I have no clue whatsoever about how to maintain my motorcycle. I'm completely dependent on others for help in the short term until I know what I'm doing. I am looking forward to the information and resources and I would appreciate being somewhere where other people are supportive no matter what level of maintenance proficiency you possess. In my case it's nil. For yourself, Gwen, it's quite considerable. Thank you so much for giving your time and resources to help other women out there, I so appreciate it.

I've been reading and it was suggested that I ask people if they would like to be 'charter members'.

People that have content, stories, pictures, and questions ready to post when the site goes live. :type

Would anybody here be intrested? :lurk

Do you know of or can suggest people that may not be members here that would be interested?

I'd be happy to be a charter member but have little to contribute. I could however be the one who posts comments on others work... "hmm, so how did you get the black thingy scootched over there?". :D

Well I think it's a great name! I love alliteration in names. Makes them easy to remember!

:clapThat's great that so many people have come forward to help you out! Best of luck and I definitely want to be a part of it! I am also a designer so if you ever need anything like flyers, postcards, web site work, whatever feel free to drop me a line!

I don't really have any content to add at this point. Would you consider putting on Bark Busters part of that type of forum? That will be something I will do in the next couple of weeks. Maybe the forum could be broken down into sections. I don't know how you'd be breaking out the forum - like engine work, changing tires, something like that.
