They still wrestler with the Dab Gable style, push your opponent to the edge of the mat and try and score there. 1 or 2 moves and counters and then out of bounds. Good scramblers who look 5 or 6 moves down the road and stay in the center of the mat have the advantage. I hated to watch Dan Gables wrestlers. I even hated more the fact that it WAS ( no more) so successful.

Yeah I think that's a good point. It's good to see Minnesota having a good year - good coaching staff there.

Minnesota is getting a Lehigh Valley kid next year - Ethan Lizak from Parkland HS. He's a 2x state champ. It's good to see that Penn State isn't getting all the studs. No one team should dominate.

Is Parkland in the Allentown area? Sounds familiar but I can't remember. Been a long time now since I lived up there.

Correct & I believe the largest school district in Pa. School is just north of Allentown in Orefield.

They were ranked #2 in Pa until the Nazarenes beat them last week. :D

Watching the Midlands tournament on the BTN right now. Iowa has 7 wrestlers in the finals, and there is at least one Big 10 wrestler in the finals of every weight class...the Big 10 is stacked this year!

I DVRed it, watching now. Good to see Minotti win. I saw him wrestle in HS & now @ Lehigh. Walsh from Indiana, lost a contact lens, picked it off the mat & stuck it back in without cleaning it. Man wrestlers are tough, but maybe not too bright :D

Thought it was great that so many lower seeded or even unseeded wrestlers made it to the finals....but then again, Penn State and OSU weren't even there!

Now we get into some really great dual meets followed by some unreal conference tournaments and then the NCAA tourney.....:clap

Not to mention some outstanding HS action along the way!

Gonna be a fun season. :D

Indeed. Was at local HS match yesterday, as the storm was starting. Big match next week which will determine who the Big Cheese is in Lehigh Valley - Nazareth @ Bethlehem Catholic. Then some Lehigh University home matches.
I might try and go to EIWAs at UPenn. I watching the Midlands again now :D

Watching the National Duals Finals (Minn. v Cornell) and the announcers just talked about a site that I hope everyone here will visit...

    www.nr4w.com

    National Registry 4 Wrestling

The object is to build a national data base of wrestling fans that can be used by the organizers to show the Olympic people the support wrestling has in this country, and to also show TV/Media and advertising groups why they should broadcast more wrestling.

Please go to the site and register. Use promo code Xavier1980 if you wish.

    Thanks!

Fix and Suriano. Incredible,...32 minutes without a let up. No sloppy stance, no head on the mat, no hanging on to rest. Glad I got to see it.

Yeah that was crazy. I thought they should have stopped it. Was glad to see that neither one of them got hurt.

They didn't show Fix at the end, but Suriano looked to be done. I don't think that he could have made another scramble. I'm sure they were both hurting the next day.

Think about the poor guys who will have to wrestle these guys in high school the next couple of years. Fix is a Jr. He dominated everyone the last 2 years. He even moved up a weight and beat the state champ at that weight.

Suriano is a Jersey boy and I believe going into his junior year. I don't think he's lost a HS match yet. Studs both of them.

Didn't get to see this but, considering how early this is in the season, and that nobody is fully conditioned yet, this is incredible.

I remember back when I was in HS/college, during the summers, we used to play king of the hill....you stayed out on the mat, taking on all comers, until you got taken down. There were times I (or another person) was out on the mat for several minutes with fresh opponents to battle against, one after another....but I don't ever remember going 32 minutes without a break.

I did do a spring tourney one year at Wright State University where I wrestled 12 matches in one evening....takedown format....because we didn't want to have to come back the next day. Didn't get done until around midnight. Wrestle a match...best two out three takedowns.....get a drink of water, then wrestle your next opponent. Keep winning, keep wrestling. I was pretty tired by the end.

I remember back then not understanding how people would get so tired doing manual labor, such as moving things or cutting weeds. It seemed I never got tired the way "normal" people did. Boy, that's not the case anymore! LOL. I now understand that I wasn't like "normal people" back then, but I sure am now!

    :D

Yeah, me too. I'm 57 and I get tired.

We called it Bull in The Ring, instead of king of the hill. I think that every wrestler did this. It was brutal.

When I was coaching elementary wrestlers we had a group of about 8 kids who all hated to lose. All close to the same age and weight. Practice was like a dogfight every day. One of the dads had just retired from the NFL. he came up to me after a good practice and said " I played 4 years in college and 10 years in the NFL and i ain't never seen nothing like this".

The elementary gym teacher separated the wrestlers from the other kids. Their goals of 20 pushups and 20 situps was nothing for the wrestlers. I had kids who could do hundreds and hundreds of situps and pushups.

So watched Lehigh beat Penn yesterday. Lehigh is looking good. Went out to Illinois and Northwestern and beat them.

    They look mean.

Bona fide stud with Nat Brown at 184. Sadly, he didn't match up with Penn's Thomas - not sure why.

They're moving up in rankings, but the top teams are not worried.

EIWA Championship will be held at Lehigh this year. Should be good.

Rutgers now in the Big Ten have some schedule at home - Iowa, Minnesota, Penn State & Ohio State, Wow.

I'll have to get to some of these....

Well not so fast Lehigh....Rider came into Grace Hall and beat them on 3rd criteria tiebreaker, as they spilt the ten bouts.

Poor offensive effort by Lehigh. Big win for Rider.
