WV TOR / Historical Markers Spring 2010 Get Together

Yokums Vacationland Campgrounds, Seneca Rocks, WV.

This is the camp site about half a mile from the Harper Store, not the Princess Snowbird Camp across from the store.

    WHEN

    June 4, 5, 6
RESCHEDULED DUE TO RAIN AND LACK OF INTESTINAL FORTITUDE

    FOOD

The Porch Restaurant, a half mile or so up the road from the campground, says it will seat up to 40 inmates, and offer a menu of reasonable fare for under $10.00 a plate. They do handle set-ups. [BYOB].

    SLEEPY TIME OPTIONS / LODGING

Motel rooms available from $45.00 / night, camping is $6.50 a head, and cabins start at 80 bucks. Beans, Bacon and Beer available on site. Owners suspect the campground will have a low occupancy due to the pre Labor Day date. There is a Pavilion at the campground, should the weather turn on us, and a large bonfire was given the go ahead. Tents may pitch in a group, not much for restrictions. Everything [motel, cabins, restaurant] is walking distance of the campfire.

    ACTIVITIES / RIDES

    Friday

Early Bird check in. Choice camp sites snatched up. Campsite duties assigned. Need not be present to be appointed.

    Saturday

May 22nd looks OK on my calendar (as of now).

Thanks, vatrader01. Looks like you've done a lot of research on this one getting lodging, camping, dining, etc. information. I'll put up a link over on the marker website so that all information and feedback is posted here.

Welcome aboard! You have some time to knock the "new" off before the get together....git out thar an' snatch the WV Tag!
Hopefully, in a while there will be some chatter among folks teaming up to make the trip. Sure like to see a good show of riders from your end of the state....but as you are kinda new, consider yerself warned..., they may be hard to keep up with. I suspect there may be a Hooligan or two in that bunch.....:hide :lol3

    Hi Andy-WV! :wave

Welcome. Yer in good hands with pnoman guiding you with the photo stuff. I can barely answer and call out on my cell phone. I'm afraid I wouldn't be much help.
Please plug up some of the holes on the TOR map, knock the "new" off, and we'll save a place for ya by the far. [that's "fire" for you Yankee enunciating elitists. It ain't too soon to brush up on the local dialect and lingo :lol3 ].

Stopped at Yokum's Saturday and my wife and I took the horsie ride up to the top of Seneca Rocks. Cost is $35 each. Takes about 90 minutes round trip. Not bad. I've never been on a horse except as a young kid riding on the work horses at the farm a few times. They are pretty tame and just fall in line and plod along. (My horse was aptly named "whiskey" and I think he had a few before the trip - he was kind of pokey, but that's OK).

They have 3 rides each day - starting at 10, 1, and 4. Call for reservations, because they only have about 15 horses.

Looks my schedule is free and I have a GREAT dual sport loop that takes most the day down there If you folks are interested!..

approx. half pavement half dirt... some challenging for a bigger bike like a GS or Strom.. :) We can even cross a river too if the water level are not to high!

Ill be on it on a big ole honken GS..

loop includes, spruce knob, pass through Laurel Fork, cheat mtn, mount storm, Dolly Sods, Black Water falls(canaan loop road), Smoke Hole road 33 etc etc, in no particular order.. Contains enough twistys and gravel/dirt to make a sane man/woman crazy!

Mapmaster (Greg too) Can vouche for my loops.. right! :)
