You need to be really careful with gear oil.

Most of them will eat the copper in the charging system stator, which is immersed in the primaries lube. I think redline is ok, but most others are not.

Good to know, thanks, went with hd syn 3. Does anybody know if the specs for the buell motor and sportster motor are the same for things like primary chain tension?

    They should be identical.

re. gear oil and copper: Is it the sulphur in gear oil that causes problems with copper surfaces?

Theoretically there's no exposed copper on the stator; it's enamel-coated. All I know is quite a few Buell riders that ran gear oil in the primary (Mobil-1 75W-90 in my case) experienced stator failure within a few months after changing to it. Possibly something in the oil breaks down the enamel coating rather than the copper itself.

I've had good results with HD's Formula+, both in the Uly and the S3 that I had before (which is the bike that experienced the stator failure with gear oil).

    ERD,

Is that top case large enough to fit a full-size helmet?

EDR, I see you are running aux light on yuor hand gaurds and forks as well as running a gps, did you have to modify the electrical system to handle all the extra juice required or does the stock system handle it fine? Thanks

The lights are Buell OEM police LED stobe lights made by Whelan and modified with clear lens for stealth. The system was designed to from the power point under the seat.

The GPS and the iPhone charger runs off of the power point on the dash.

The headlight was changed to a 35w HID.

The battery is an AGM and stock charging system runs fine with no problem.

So While changing the oil in my buell tonight the o rings on the drain plugs were tore and shot so I got new ones they fit the plug good (tight had to roll on) but after tightening them up they squish out around the hex portion of the plug. Wondering if this is right or if I got to thick of o rings? Does not seem to be leaking but will know more in the morning after sitting all night. Also switched to hd syn 3 in primary what a difference! Thanks

Mine does that also. No leaks for me.....well maybe a smear on the drain plug. I just chained the Primary oil tonight with Mobil 15-50 as shifting was getting stiff. It;s what I have so it will be fine. Be riding the Uly for several weeks again as my daily commuter as I have my KTM 1190 stripped down getting ready to paint. The Uly feels and acts much lighter than the KTM.

After a few months of waiting for the paper work to finally clear the lawyers office, I got it registered and plated.

On Tuesday I finally got to ride it. So, I wicked it up to the limiter and it hit around 63 mph... in first gear.

Taking into account that the speed limit around here does not exceed 100 kph, which is right around 63 mph..... what is 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th gear for??
