Pretty Colors, pictures, and better info coming. Nice looking pices are from ER70S-2. Bad ones are from me.:

Howdy all! With the move to the new forum platform lots of things have changed. Some of them are mostly permanent, some are temporary, and a lot of them are just how the new software works. Now that things are slowing down it's a good time to get a FAQ going to address the things people are asking about.

I expect this will change quite a bit as things are fixed, tweaked, and minds are changed.

Let's start with the Temporary things:
    • Search (ADVrider) - Search is back online. Look to the top right.

To search only the thread you are in (the option to single out the forum you are in is there, too:

The search is currently disabled because of server load Recently, Baldy posted:

    • Search (Google) - The Google results will point to the old forum links until Google reindexes the forum. There's no making Google do anything. It'll happen before long.

    • Posts per page - This is not a user-set variable. It's set forum wide now.

    • Missing attachments (Pics and .gpx files) - They are coming back, but slowly.

    • Lag - There is some lag from time to time and it may seem your post isn't getting posted. Just hang tight. You might see the post button change color and/or a set of three animated boxes showing you that the server is working. Even if you don't see those, please don't keep hitting the post button over and over. Give it time to process and things will be ok.

    • Multiple posts - If you do keep hitting the post button as mentioned above, when things catch up, please go in and delete your own multiple posts to help keep things clean.

    Site Function:

    • Subscribed Threads - These are now Watched Threads. You can access them from the menu in the top left. Either Click or Mouse Hover over "Forum" and then click "Watched Threads." If you don't see any threads there, look for "Show all watched threads" and click that.

If you had your subscribed threads in a lot of different folders, they didn't get copied over. Only subs in the main directory were processed.

    • Mark Forum as Read - This is in the "Forum" menu on the top left. If you are in a forum, you will have the option to clear the whole site or the specific forum you are in.

    • Tapatalk - Tapatalk support has been reactivated. Please delete your current sub to ADVrider and re-select it to get it working properly. Go say nice things to the admins.

    • Own Posts - Called Your Content now. It currently does not separate posts made and threads started. Currently not indexing them all since site search is disabled. There are several ways to access it.
+ Hover or Click on your name in the upper right. The control panel will appear. In the right column click "Your Content."
+ Hover or Click on your name in the upper right. Click on "Profile." Click "Postings" tab.
+ Click your avatar in the side panel (side on desktop, bottom on mobile). Click the number beside "Messages."

    • Others Posts - Similar to own posts. Same limitations apply. Access it by clicking on a user's avatar and following same steps as for your own posts.

    • PMs - Converstations. Moving forward messages between users (and groups of users) will look like text chats on your phone. The old messages couldn't be put into that same format so they will seem a little clunky and will no longer be separated by Sent/Rec'd. New messages will make this make sense.

To delete, "Leave Conversation" If everyone leaves, the conversation will be purged.

You can also have group private chats now. Just start a conversation and keep adding people. The number of people you can invite is dependent on your permissions level. Normal users can have 5, mods 10, admins can do their own thing.

The old rules still apply. Don't post content from private messages.

    • Ignore Forums/Threads: You can now Ignore forums and/or individual threads. Look to the top right just above the thread/forum list for the appropriate link. Additionally, you can specify just how ignored those things are.

    • Embed Videos: There are several video hosting sites that have been coded to work with ADVrider already with more to come. Clicking on the embed tool in the reply window will bring up a list of accepted sites.

+ You can cut/paste the Youtube address or share link and it will work. Do not use the embed link.
+ SmugMug video: It works even though it's not listed in the sites that work.

    • Pictures: Most of the code for the pictures have been converted. No more html links. When getting links from your hosting sites, make sure you pick bbcode links. You can also click the usual add photo button and follow the instructions. IF your old posts are not showing their pics, you may have to manually edit that post to fix the code. If you have questions, ask your mod team.

    • Smilies: Click on the smilie icon in the reply box and then choose the smilie you want. There are more in the other tabs.

    • Alerts: A running tally of new posts in watched threads, new posts in conversations, etc. There are links inside the alert to take you to the thread and to the poster's profile.

    • Avatars - The site allows larger avatars now (200x200 and XMB) If your avatar is fuzzy, just upload a new version in higher resolution. If you used the stock avatars from the old forum you'll need to find it online somewhere, save it to your computer, and upload it. The old stock are not part of the new system. No more animated avatars.

    • Theme Select - There are a few active themes right now. You can change them by clicking on the Cog Wheel Style Chooser on the bottom left. They are each quite different and are being updated along. This isn't even their final form.

Causes all the indications of unread posts for that forum to go away. It makes the forum think you read everything there.

Is there a way for me NOT to see my avatar inserted into the avatar of the Thread starter when I participated in that thread? I can't find anything in my preferences.

If you don't find any way to do something, you can safely assume you cannot do it. Please feel free to poke around as much as you want, though. We are all learning here.

No. This is deeply built in to Xenforo, like at the core of the way the platform works. It would take a massive add-on to fix and so far no one that I know of has attempted it with any degree of success.

Just FYI and sorry if already reported:
Before the move I was following a certain BlueM00se which now was converted to a BlueMoose (zero zero vs oo). Different user altogether. Not a huge issue for me as I can un follow and re add whomever I need.

Compared to other migrations to this platform I've seen: WELL DONE :clap

I think I've got most of the BookFace-type crap turned off as much as possible (Like, follow, post on profile page, comment on post on profile page, alerts if some follower I've never met scratches their nuts) etc- If I wanted FB or Twitter, I know where to find it...)

I am *really* going to miss my 100 posts/page. I wish the posted date/time were at the top somewhere instead of the bottom, and the current style trends toward lower information density dismays me, but overall, I'm liking it.
