I need help. I own a 01 xr 200 and it has started spilling gas out of the carb.

On the bottem of the carb on the back side there is a small line that runs down to the bottom of the bike and stops. Whenever the gas is on, it just pretty much spits gas out of it. It runs fine but just sprays gas everywhere. I cranked it up and turned the gas off and it immediately stopped but the bike continued to run until the remaining gas in the carb ran out. I repeated the process except turned the gas back on before it died and it resumed the spraying.

I know nothing about carbs and therefore have no idea what is wrong. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

there is a small valve in the carb that is opened and closed much like a toilet with a float. It keeps fuel at the correct height in the bowl so that the needle and jets give enough fuel. you need to change that. While your in there you should give it a good cleaning.

looks like this prior to bath.

The float is sticking and/or the float needle valve is crudded up or shot. As said, disassemble the carb, clean everything thoroughly paying particular attention to the pilot jet, might be all that is needed. Here's a pretty good tutorial on how to do it. The carb in the video is not exactly like yours, but is similar enough that you will get the picture.
