Well over the weekend I got to do a little surgery on the little 400/4.
As it is not running I decided to pull the carbies out and give them a thorough clean and service.

A broken manifold will need to be replaced.

A quick look inside the Carb’s shows number 1 opens a long time after 3 & 4 and 2 doesn’t move at all. I will post the carbie rebuild photo’s as I go.

I will be doing a compression test but from the look of it a head gasket might be on order too. I am just weighing up how far to go with this, as it is not a restoration. I will know once I have the comp test numbers.

    Bout time you started...

My RZ still looks pretty much the same even though I have been busy building a new shock mount and other small but important jobs.

Well I have just completed the compression test tonight :norton

    1- 55 then 73 psi
    2- 54 then 68 psi
    3- 70 psi
    4- 65 psi

A little bit of oil in No:1 and 170 psi, which is where it should be.

Looks like a 460cc kit is on the way. :evil

Have also been looking at the air filtering system, looks like a lot of places for leaks, so I will have to have a good look at that as well. Im not a fan of pod filters and I can get the foam ones. I will be riding over 600k's of dirt and gravel when its finished, so any suggestions ???

Coming soon the engine tear down pics :deal

Still looking for an old XL or XR front end and swingarm :ear

Look like very good quality and at a very reasonable price :evil

Now I have to pull the engine down to get it re-bored.

giday, I've been a lurker here for a while.I'm to blame for the cm.:eek1 It belongs to a very short mate of mine(5ft and cash strapped) who wanted to have a go at some trailriding, but only had the cm250. It has a chain conversion(from belt drive) and now sports some longer rear shocks (from a chinese quad, fronts i think?). We had to ditch the front tyre and go back to a dual purpose as the poor old shocks couldn't handle the tyre size on the highway. The exhaust is simply amazing, sounds like a cross between a bmw twin and a duke. I made the pipes from old ironing board legs, and the muffler is of an extractor set off an aircooled beetle. The bike is ridden to work as well here in Brisbane.

he loves it!:clap it goes quite hard(no crap! stays with my drz no probs! will spin the wheels easily in 1st an 2nd!!). Not only has it got him out adventure riding, it gives him great pleasure and exclusivity!! :freaky
