Here is one for all you xr600 guys out there. I wanted to buy a plated XR600 and tear it down and build it my way. So I came up with an idea of doing a subframe conversion using all crf450x parts and ebayed most everything I needed to build this bike. Also did the USD fork conversion. So far, I have done 2 dual sport rides (over 500 miles) and it worked very well. Here is a list of mods we did.

Cut off and discarded the entire xr600 subframe and all componets.

Installed new 450x subframe, seat, side plates and fenders
450x airbox (moded it, see pics)
450x Two Brothers racing muffler (moded to fit White Bros SS XR600 header)
450x Rear brake master cylinder converion
    CRF450r Carb (custom intake manifold)
    Inverted front end
Suspension done by House of Horsepower
200 watt stator, Trail Tech head light
Powder coated frame and subframe gloss black
    Custom bar risers
Gutts Racing soft seat foam (for long DS rides)
    Magura Hydrolic clutch conversion [IMG]
    Talon gold hubs
    Black Excel rims
Braking Oversized front Rotor (A must have on this bike)
    Garmin GPSmap 60 csx
Clark 4 gallon tank (needed the long range)
    Ims pegs
Pro moto billet kick stand (cut off original mount, made a new mount and installed the pmb kick stand from a CR500) way better fit and looks really cool too....

All my fabrication work was done by a shop in Hayward, Ca. Curt Winter @ BTRmoto.com. He is building some of the badest bikes around right now. He can do anything you want and his prices are very reasonable.

Mate I love this - in fact I bought a 450x rear end for my 600 2 years ago and never got round to doing it.

good to see you complete the job.

    how does it run?

    Great job....nicely done!!

But would be sweeter if you have fitted A-loop tank shroud kit for the 600 to complete the sleek modern look.

    Anyways...awesome project.....:freaky

Yep, It's sitting on the garage floor. I bought it and installed it with 2008 CRf450x shrouds and it looks very cool, but realisticly it has less than 2 gallons of gas. I didn't want my bike to have such a short range. Would you like to buy one :D

I am looking to add some dualsport rides to the calendar next year. Are there any realy awesome ds rides in Nor Cal? I did the Sheetiron and the Reno 200 this year. I would like to find something around 200+ miles of A-B level riding, 1-2 day ride would be cool. I am also considering the Death Valley area. I would like to see Charles Manson's hideout. Does anyone have a gps route of that ride? Maybe a 2 or 3 day version, thx

That xr looks really familiar. You didn't happen to buy it from a inmate did you?

But that is a cOol build. Good job on the conversion.

I bought the xr600r from a kid not far from where I live. It was all stock and it needed a lot of TLC. I wanted to do something different and give it a new look :D

Hey Guys, I am now thinking about getting into my engine and freshening it up. I hear that the HRC628 cam is the way to go, but that they don't make them anymore. If so, does anyone have a new one that they never used? or, is they somebody that is making cams to the HRC 628 spec? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
