The mounting bracket doesn't weigh much but the top case weighs about 10 pounds. Thanks for the links for the cases, those look nice. I also stumbled on to this http://www.carrycasesplus.com/seahorse-cases/se-300.html

That's pretty sweet. I'm not a real big fan of the cafe's although I like a nicely done up one. I don't think I could ride one very far :) I had an old Honda CJ360 for awhile. Wish I still had it for just playing with.

    Hey!
Thought it was time to drop in and say hello and introduce myself, (hope I am doing this in the right place).

I am the proud owner of a (new to me) 2008 XR650L which I purchased 4 days before Christmas (Merry Christmas to me!!!) and was fortunate enough to get it out for a run on Christmas day which is Awesome considering I live in Cambridge, Ontario. I've done a lot of reading on this site since then and I'm pumped to have found such a community of generous, free thinking, knowledge sharing riders as you lot.:thumb Regardless of when spring actually happens, this is destined to be the longest winter of my life.. I've toyed with the idea of buying a thumper for a few years now but for whatever reason waited till I hit my mid 40's to actually take the dive. I'm sure I will regret not doing it sooner but... C'est la vie.

There are a few questions I need to ask of any local riders, hopefully someone can help me out here. I am going to be getting licensed as a new rider (M1) because I let my license lapse for too long so I am hoping for some idea's on where to get the best deal on insurance. My previous ride was a Suzuki VZ800 and I was paying $1500.00/yr (the reason I quit riding) and if I can't find a better deal now I may have to consider selling again.:cry I have done a rider training course and will only be looking to get liability coverage so if anyone has a contact or connection that might help get me a better rate I will be eternally grateful. I was also wondering if there are any riders in my neck of the woods who can give some input on places near to home to get off the beaten path, dirt roads, wide trails and scenic routes or group rides around these parts. I am going to throw out a "Thanks in advance" and look forward to hearing from any of you.

    $1500 a year!?!? :huh

I don't even pay that much a year for full coverage on my truck and wife's suv, and my bike combined! My bike insurance is $85 a year, and I just got my street endorsement in July.

That supplier that I linked to has a LOT of case options, including the pelican cases, and most of them have free shipping. Take the time to browse through it and you can probably find something to fit your needs well.

Yes, welcome Bud! Loved Ontario and canoeing the Spanish River... If that's not too off- topic to mention in the xrl thread. Sorry about insurance being so outrageously priced there :bluduh but I suppose Canada IS somewhat more socialistic than what we're becoming... and everything does have it's cost. Insurance is still $75 / yr / bike for me, which I consider reasonable for the xrl and a Honda 1100 screamer :D. Hope you're able to get a good rate. Do you have Allstate up 'er?

Yes, it's running now and no, it wasn't error in my testing. It was a sporadic spark problem that would clear up and work fine...sometimes within seconds of not working and vise verse.

Got news for ya...that method didn't help one bit, was one of the very first things I tried(cleaning the switch and cycling the switch) and is now proven to not work all the time.

I have to remove the switch to disassemble it. Therefore, I can work on the switch inside my home; there's no need to freeze. Also, I believe in preventive maintenance. :deal Therefore, I think it's probably a good idea to give this switch a thorough cleaning every other year or so. :nod

Does anyone have the link that was posted awhile back regarding the Easton handlebars that were on sale real cheap? I just spent damn near an hour(that I'll never get back :D) looking for the link. I know it's a long shot but are they still on sale? I'd like to get another set of bars. Any other sales links for 1 1/8' handlebars would be much appreciated!

Man this thread moves fast! :huh

I don't know anything about this topic. However, you might want to join the conversation at Thumpertalk. :deal

X2. :bluduh I reassemble the throttle assembly as best I can. Next I remove both throttle cables at the carburetor. Then I re-attach both throttle cables at the carburetor, and the throttle operates properly. Is there an easier method? Thankfully, I only needed to fiddle with the throttle assembly when I installed my grip heaters. :rolleyes

Hmmm, that didn't make me feel any better. Thirty years clean driving and I pay $1300/yr for full coverage on an 07 Ram. Man, Canada really blows when it comes to insurance!!! :topes
