My idea of fun
YZ490 and YZ80 both of which haven't seen daylight for YEARS.
KTM 625 SMC. Four stroke LC4 motor. No smoke.
Harley FXRS-SP another four stroke that doesn't smoke or leak!
If,Honda came out with a 500cc direct injection dual sport bike (or Yamaha, or Suzuki, Kawi, or...even KTM) you couldn't get me to the dealer fast enough. I love smokers. The simplicity of the motor is so beautiful.
Thanks, Steve! PMing you now.
If that YZ490 needs exercise... lemme know
Well? Type faster!!
It'll rip your arms out of their sockets. If you can start it...:eek1 :eek1 :eek1
Oh well. off to the garage. I's got me some wrenching to do.
I used to ride with a guy who had one a looooong time ago. It was a lot of fun to ride (of course I was a wee bit younger also). I remember it would do wheelies for miles. You didn't have to worry about balance or any of that crap. Just throttle and rear brake:eek1. Being behind it on a ride was no fun though. Handguards, chest protector, googles and a visor were a MUST. .
There are few things on this planet that sound more sinister than an air-cooled two cycle. The Yamaha 750s sound absolutely evil.
Back, way, way back, in the day I went to the Indianapolis Mile. The one where Kenny Roberts won on a TZ750 flat tracker. The two factory Harley guys were approaching the finish line doing the you go first bit (team mates) and Kenny nipped them at the line.
At the San Jose Mile I was standing at the exit of turn two and the Harleys were tossing dirt clods at out feet if that. Scott Brelsford riding a Erv Kanaemoto Kawasaki 750 triple was lofting the dirt clods twenty feet behind us and he would wheelie all the way down the back straight at well over 100 MPH!!!
The AMA quickly put an end to all of this foolishness and banned the two stroke multi cylinder bikes. Ya think Harley had anything to do with this? I do... But it sure made for a good show.
The two stroke twin flat trackers would have left a stack of bodies if the AMA hadn't banned them. I wouldnt be surprised if the TZ750 flat tracker was built on a dare.... hey watch this shit!
What two stroke twins? They were three (Kawasaki) and four (Yamaha) cylinders.
I went in like 2008 I guess (along with the MotoGP) and Kenny revived the 750 and went for a few laps. OMG, I honestly feared he was going to lose it. I saw him at dinner the next night (he came and sat at our table). I was literally star struck . He, Wayne, Kevin and others were having dinner at the same place. I should've took pics.
Here's some from the event.
I think there was a race or something too...
You are correct... too many conversations going on at once. On-line, in person and when you factor in the voices in my head, it gets really crazy!
Blonde, Brunette or?
I'd take the or!
Those who run the MT21 front tire...
How many miles you get out of it (with a good amount of pavement riding) and how smooth/rough is it going down the road and turning?
My TR8 front is wearing like iron but it has a weird pulsing shake to it and feels really chunky in the corners... The rear is down to the wear bars now at 2,700 miles.
I've got my next rear tire picked out, but I'm looking for a fairly aggressive front tire that will wear well on pavement but still last a while and be decent off-road...
