Well I broke off another factory rear blinker on the 4th. What are you guys doing differently? I’m thinking I would like to buy a rear fender that has the taillight and blinkers built in. Who makes this as an aftermarket product? Does the license plate hide the blinkers? Anyone one have a .com I can visit?

Hey Medicine, I wanted to mention some guys from the Kansas Backroads Touring group are going to do a ride around the "Arickaree" breaks pretty soon.
Just an FYI and a headsup on the site in case you hadn't found it. :dunno

Probably not, august is time to get up high and play in the mountains. :evil I've met and rode with a few guys from that site but I don't know the guy putting this on.
It sounded like it would be an close one for you though.
A new riding buddy is coming by in a bit to pick up a tire for his dr350 that needs finished off, and a 120 just looks tiny on an xrl. :eek1
Last week in august is our normal colorado trip, you would be welcome to come along.

    Hi,

This is my first post on this site. I have a 2002 xr650l and live in southern california. My mods are smog removed, jetted, clark 4.7, small tail light, fmf q2, rack, and my custom oil cooler. Here are some pics of my bike. Any one else in so cal with an 650l?

    Nice looking bike!
Thanks for the pics of the XR400 oil cooler, looks nice! I almost added one last winter but my rebuild ran into more$$ than I wanted it to, so I skipped it.

Just got back from a dual sport event and need some advice on mirrors since I broke one due to a pretty big mud hole. Anyone with a good aftermarket one to recommend? Where did you get them?

Also - I've looked - but cannot locate short clutch and brake levers. When I was a kid I used to have "DeHandlers" on my RM 125 and loved them. I can't find anything to replace the stock ones and want something a little better than just cutting off the origianl levers.

    Thanks in advance

    Mean Dean,

I have been looking for the "shorty" levers also. I have contacted everyone i can think of with absolutely no luck at all. ASV has some nice stuff, but currently doesnt make any for the L. There really isnt anything that can be canned off of other bikes as the levers seem to be unique to the L (at least the brake lever is anyhow) You probably could find one for the clutch side on its own, but i didnt look into that as i didnt want to replace only one.

I considered just swapping out perches with something i could get shorter levers for, but in doing so you will lose the bar mounted choke & the brake light switch. You may be able to adapt a clutch perch with a hot-start lever to act as the choke if you want to retain it (i may end up going that route in the future) or move the choke to the triples in some manner. Replacing the brake perch would be more tricky to retain the brake light switch (if you care about it) or you could just watch ebay and grab a usable perch from someones parts pile. I havent come up with any brilliant ideas yet for that little problem. Neither of these options would necessarily be exactly cheap as the sky can be the limit on perch prices.

Short of the complete perch replacement, we both seem to be out of luck. If you stumble across anything, or come up with a better idea, i would love to hear about it!

I have had great luck with the ken sean folding mirrors.
Key is to run the ball joints dry so the wind doesn't spin 'em around.
You rotate them, and then fold them, one goes between the speedo and bar pad, the other between the key and the bar pad.

I customized my brake lever by dropping the bike and having the end curl forwards- its just like a shorty!

Well at least I feel that I'm not the only one that has looked everywhere for the shorty levers. I'll be sure to let you knoe if I come accross something.

I'll have to check into these mirrors.
