This is what REAL adventure is !!

Looks great. Nothing wrong with 650 Ural, as long as you don’t try to interstate it on the regular. No fear of that happening in Vietnam, the bike is actually perfectly adapted for the needs of a place where serviceability trumps reliability. Keep us posted!
Highly recommended upgrades - "Pizdetz", "Yeb tvoju mat'!", or if that doesn't work, "Hueputen' pizdorvancheskaja".
Update: After a few short (~20km) rides, I'm thinking I might be able to trust the rig for a day trip. Here that means <200km.
The electronic ignition is WONDERFUL! Even after sitting for 5 days this week while we were in Cambodia, it started right up yesterday on the first push of the starter button.
After the clusterf*ck of the first post here, I'll admit to a bit of apprehension...
Meh, no one stands in the middle of the bar and tells stories* about their boring rides.
*At the very least, you'd hope that they wouldn't.
there is no such thing as a good ural.
Unfortunately for my short-term riding life and fortunately for my bank account, I'm coming out of retirement and heading back to the US shortly to lead some training and then have a rotator cuff repair. That will necessitate putting the hack on ice for a few months.
While I'm on that side of the Pacific, I'll take some time to head down to South America and check out other possible retirement spots--hopefully ones with few gringos.
The current thought is that -- assuming the surgery and recovery go well -- I'll buy a bike down there and ride through Columbia and Ecuador; maybe even Peru. In a perfect world, I'd find a hack, but I'll probably have to go back to 2-wheels for a while 'cause there's not enough time to do a proper ride through Central America and then navigate my way around the Darien Gap.
Any thoughts or experiences that might help are welcome. Thanks!
If you're reading this and near Ontario, CA (5-16 Nov) or Olympia, WA (17-30 Nov), send me a PM and we'll get together to swap stories over adult beverages.
Will post other locations/dates as I figure this trip out.
So whats in the future for the Ural?
I'm gonna drain the fuel and cover the rig. It will sit here and wait for my return. Then I'm gonna make a few repairs/changes and ride the shit out of it.
Well thats ok then.
I was going ask about transfering it to Cambodge.
My daughter and her hubby would look after it for me I am sure.
She would fret about me ridding though.
My wife is anchored here in Shoalwater so not much chance of long term stays in Cambodia.
My daughter in Cambodia has a room in her new house of dad.
You can feel the pull right?
I hope you find what your looking for.
Of course we have the perfect place to visit here.
Penguin island Seal island and shag rock.
Within a Mile.
Are you offering to buy it? Or asking if I'll lend it to you?
If the first: PM me with an offer.
If the second: I'm good, thanks.
