It wasn't so long ago Collin was prevented from racing with a lesser injury.
Presumably he failed the pressup test.
Right. It's the Dorna docs that clear him to race. His surgeon just makes recommendations. It seems to me it's asking a lot to expect him to sit out a race and give up a possible 25 points when the docs on site tell him he's cleared to go.
As long as there are different Dorna docs at different tracks you're going to get inconsistancies like with CE. It's a judgement call after all.
Dorna docs go to all the rounds. There is also a local "track" doc, and that is who denied Edwards in '11.
My misunderstanding then. I'm not going to second guess Lorenzo's decision any more than I'd second guess John Wesley Powell decions to head down the Colorado river. I'm not going to second guess either doctors decision either. I don't have the medical training. I have broken a collar bone before and can't imagine doing what Lorenzo did or will do this weekend.
It seems to me the issue is with inconsistancies in the clearing process then. We know how to fix that. But Dorna has never been known for being consistant anyway.
Racing is their job and they have a decade or so in the spotlight.
IMHO, here we have a bunch of enthusiasts and amateurs (us!) second guessing a highest level pro's situation and motivation. These guys are reaching for the top prize in MC racing.
If they concerned themselves with the bad what-ifs, that golden ring would stay out of reach.
Checks by Dorna were only done to confirm, that the rider fulfills the minimum requirements to participate. Whether it is wise for him to do so, is another matter.
HAHA so true slidin the back while pushin the front and then it all gets away form ya
Then presumably he failed the "habla espanol" test.
Whether or not you pull it off. Survive, hero......don't stupid.
Thems the breaks
Too weak to speak for yourself?
Edwards made the effort to call most of the grid "pussies" so that should even things up.
Great Cal Interview by Krop
It's adv. When we aren't out riding around, we sit around and second-guess each other and everyone else. This is who we are.
Ben was interviewed on the BBC a while back and he explicitly stated, at some length, his contract was with Ducati and that they could put him in any championship, not just motogp. He made is sound a really positive thing.
I was on my way to an enduro once, thought I would take a break from work for the morning and unfortunately come up a bit fast on a drain and went down on the other side, no big drama except that someone had put a rather large piece of concrete in the path my body was taking, my shoulder hit it and my collarbone broke on impact.
I called my wife to come and pick me up, she was not going to cooperate so I rode home, strapped myself up and was back at work in an hour machining a 300kg turbine shaft bearing cap, fitting a Bentley Nevada probe.
I ordered a really fancy clavicle brace on line, it came in a few days and I wore that for a few weeks.
I did not see a doctor or visit a hospital. I knew what I had done, I knew how to treat it and it only took a few hours out of my life. I managed to compensate for the lack of movement by improvising.
I actually thought nothing of it.
I really think we take some of this shit far to seriously, Jlo was a bad break but he had the advantage of having some really need shit available to get him bolted back together. He knew what he could do and just got on with work.
It's tough its good, but really at his level and line of work it is probably pretty well, normal! Albeit amazing!
If I had gone to a doctor I would probably have been given a medical cert to be of work for weeks. I didn't and I wasn't well a couple of hours, not weeks.
Jlo did what he knew he could do, why do people question it and or call it stupid. He doesn't call you stupid for driving a car down the highway.
Just let the guy get on with his job and be amazed, you really have no right to judge him at all from a lot of counts.
Thanks for that story Pilbara. Now we can all sit back and judge YOU! You are an idiot. I can't believe you put your life on the line and CHOSE to go back to work!
