Good on KTM for keeping him, Aprilia should take notes on how to look like a well run team.
Nothing at all against Smith, but it is a fact, that Kallio has scored 11 points from 3 starts, while Smith has 14 points from 13 starts (he missed 1 start). And Kallio wanted to go racing. Bizarre how this did not work out.
Yes...very strange....more than meets the eye, as per normal....
Well it appears that surprising as this may sound, Smith´s contract does not have a performance clause, that would allow KTM to replace him (from racing).. and they want to respect their contracts (which even Kallio says he fully understands, although he is frustrated at the situation in general)... and then KTM even offered Kallio a chance to participate in every 2018 race as wild-card, and Dorna would have given green light to this, but other teams did not. He should get 6 wild card appearances, though.
Given how DORNA is looking for factories to support satellite teams and that KTM offered the resources for a full season, wouldn't it be possible to run Kallio as a "satellite", similar to what HRC is doing for CC next year? Or maybe there isn't an available grid slot?
Considering the number of bikes on a Moto3 start I doubt grid slots are the main issue in the top class.

I know Brenden Ketelsen and his Dad, Dean. Great kid from a nice family committed to racing. Watched Brenden race mini moto, supermoto and some dirt track for years. Hope he does well at the tryouts.
Read Krop's interview with Smith, there's insight there, which might explain the situation with KTM.
Thanks - very interesting. He is a genuinely nice bloke.
Extending to 4 days May increase logistical nightmares ATM and going forward. Maybe not but lots to be said for 4 day GP
2018 will see a packed asian pacific calander with Japan Thailand Australia and Malaysia all in 28 days. 16 days non racing to pack up airfreight reassemble teams etc may cut back any cushion they have . Not like driving transport round Europe
perhaps a Husqvarna team?
Might it come down to Euros? Is that why having Kalio wild card at all the 2018 races was turned down (by DORNA? by IRTA? by other teams?)
Don't I remember that each annual grid slot costs a considerable amount of money? Would it have been less expensive to "wild card" the entire season than to have a third KTM rider, even if Kalio was called a satellite rider?
Maybe Krop has some answers. David, you around?
There's been a fair amount of Bradley bashing going on in some other fora. Is it possible he really has been the test mule, and Pol has reaped more of the benefits?
OTOH he might make a good race commentator in a couple of years.
MotoGP and Moto3 are different leagues.
MotoGP grid is capped at 24 slots.
I suspected the same and his interview seems to indicate just that. He was focusing on developing the bike and not going for all out speed.
He had a long run of DNFs a couple years ago at tech 3 before getting resigned. He was like a whole new rider after that. Let's see if the confidence KTM had in him shows up this weekend with some performance increases.

Which could always be changed, eh?
