WHAT: North GA dual sport ride. WHERE: Departure will be from THUNDER ROAD, which is some overly-elaborate shrine to NASCAR that Awesome Bill from Dawsonville built. It went under (who saw THAT coming?) and is now Dawsonville City Hall. It has a big enough parking lot that those who need to trailer can park there no problem. There is gas and food just around the corner. This is on Hwy 53 just east of town. I will post up more elaborate directions in a bit. WHEN: Saturday, November 18th. I hope this works for at least most of you. I tried to give enough notice since some people have mentioned taking time off work to ride up here. Also, I know it is the weekend before Thanksgiving but that's how it goes. TIME: It gets light out early, so I say kickstands up at 9am. TERRAIN: I will be staying offroad for the most part. I am talking 85% wide open forest roads, singletrack, and some gnarly rocky stuff. My opinion is that any bike can make the journey, depending on the rider. I have seen some Dl1000's do some shit I didn't think was possible. Realistically, things like DRZ's and XR's are gonna be a lot more fun. There will be some creek/river crossings (nothing TOO crazy). There will be some slab work as well, I just try to keep it limited. You're gonna want knobby-esque rubber. I am still working out the route details, but I will show some good scenery. We will pass and stop at the now-infamous SWINGING BRIDGE. You will have to leave your bike and walk for maybe a 1/4 mile or so to get to the bridge. We will ride around Suches, and head towards Hiawassee to some trails that GADUALSPORT showed me. This will be an all day ride. WARNING: I am no professional dual sport event organizer. If the group is large ( I am sure it will be ) then I'll get some other local route leaders. (PAGING MIKE!). Last time turned into a fiasco. There were a lot of lurkers that showed up with no notice. We quickly had 20 riders at my house, which was cool, but I was drastically underprepared for it. So PLEASE, if you intend to ride PLEASE let me know beforehand so I can make arrangements. I am just a dude that can show you some good trails. MORE TO COME. STAY TUNED.
