Granny Henderson's "cabin" on The Buffalo River near Ponca Arkansas. She lived here from about 1917 to 1979. The last 20-years by herself. 160-acre farm. No electricity, no running water. Beautiful area!

It's a frame house. Originally board & batten. At some point the vertical boards were covered with horizontal lap siding. The handmade fish scale shingles in the gable ends are super-cool! It's in amazing condition, considering it's in the middle of a wilderness area and has been vacant since February 1979, when the NPS finally got control of her land. She died a few months after leaving the place.

She had Chickens, Pigs, Cows. Grew Corn. The fruit trees are still in the front yard. Some of the biggest apple trees I've ever seen!

I've passed this old barn several times returning from various bike trips and finally decided to stop and take a photo on my return from eastern Oregon over the Memorial Day weekend. Felt like a fitting end to a weekend on the road, appreciating the freedoms I have to live, worship, and ride as I please. This vet salutes all you others reading this.

This little nugget of Americana is in Latah, Washington along SR-27 south of Spokane.
(Sorry, for the poor resolution - taken with my phone)

No problem, unless you're going to make money with it. In that case, I want a cut!

I have a better photo of just the barn, closer without the bike. Would you prefer that one?

OK, so not a very old building, but one on the National Register of Historic Buildings. All y'all Lynyrd Skynyrd fans should know this building in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
