Château d'Angers France....................... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Château_d'Angers
So 'Paradise' by John Prine was historically based.
Then the coal company came with the world's largest shovel
And they tortured the timber and stripped all the land
Well, they dug for their coal till the land was forsaken
Then they wrote it all down as the progress of man
It is outside Bedford, IN if I remember correctly. Crazy big
And do tell, where is this pic taken?
Absolutely. In fact, for a (very) short time I was employed at the Paradise Fossil Plant during an asbestos removal. I took air samples to ensure the asbestos fibers were contained. The road going past is named "John Prine Highway".
Thanks... Lots of coal in Indiana, too. Home of Amax IIRC.
Snapped a picture in front of this fine establishment.
Have one of these, a "walking" drag line, near Jasper, Alabama.
Got this out for a ride over the week-end.... an old grist mill. Not sure when it was built, but guessing late 1800s?
I talked to the owners earlier in the year.... most of the old equipment is still in there!
They would like to restore the building to some degree... but as always.... will take a boatload of $$$$
Red Mountain, Colorado
If you look for it on google maps, the old abandoned prison in Paradise is visible on google earth as well. That song is 100% based on real life. It's a damn good one.
Thanks, I found the Muhlenberg County Detention Center as well as a gigantic coal mine and a power plant.
Amherst Milling Co, which was just sold and will be converted into a brewery by the new owners!!!!

Looks like we just missed you two.
Here's an old historic Mormon church in Echo, Utah. My '93 K75S in front.
