Marlinton, WV train station. The original station burnt down a couple of years ago and this is the identical replacement building. The tracks have been removed and replaced with a 77 mile bicycle & hiking trail.

built in 1908 and staffed until October 2012 then closed... history HERE

Originally it had two waiting rooms... one for men and one for women at opp sides of the ticket office in the center. The telegraph office was housed in the far left end
oddly enough.. the train still stops for passengers who wait "outside".

Station at Palmer, MA - a triangular structure that sits between two rail lines right at the point where they intersect. It is now a restaurant and popular train watching spot.

Yeah, Cass and Marlinton are a great place to ride! I was just there two weekends ago with a group of bikes (bicycles :D) to ride the Greenbrier River Trail, route of the old railroad. We wanted to ride the whole ~80 miles and camp two nights but Friday the 3rd was a total washout, heavy rain and wind, and cold (36*F Sunday morning :vardy). We rode from Marlinton to Caldwell with one night's camp and it was a hoot.

The trail looked just like this for the entire 52 miles between Marlinton and Caldwell; we saw maybe 20 other people the whole weekend and most of them were day-riding or walking from the terminus.

Last summer my wife and I rode via Cass to Snowshoe, WV for lunch and then on to Fayetteville and the New River Gorge for a couple of days of hiking. What an awesome area to ride, bike, run the river, and hike!

Decided to try the Auto Train a couple years ago when I was living in Ft. Lauderdale area. Rode to the Orlando Florida Amtrak station where it was loaded on the train and on to Washington DC (Lorton Station). Was a nice trip, Once there, I went all through Virginia, up to the Blue Ridge Parkway and West Virginia. I would have worn out a set of tires (and myself in the July heat) riding up all the way from SE Florida. It worked out pretty nice.
