Winter weather isn't helping my boat landing pics and my back drops aren't cool like most of those posted but if it's all I have....

This is in the swamps of the Withlacoochee River in West Central Florida. There is a sugar sand road that leads to it. The locals launch small, shallow draft boats from this to go hunting and fishing so it may not look like it, but it counts as a boat launch.

A canoe is a boat, right? So does this count? This is the Little Withlacoochee River under a bridge on U.S. 301. That little ditch behind the bike is the river. I canoed that last week. What an adventure! This picture was the first time I had discovered this place to put in. The access was not easy to see as I rode up the highway.

This location is called "Iron Bridge". In the late 1800's this bridge was built to cross the Withlacoochee River. Prior to that the only way to cross the river was by the local ferry operator. All that is left are these iron pilings. There were two others across the river that recently gave way to time and fell in. One several years back and the other just a few months ago. There is a lot of history along this river. It was used by early Native American Indians and evidence of their existence is all over the banks of this river. The Seminole Indians used it as a highway to traverse Florida. It is one of only two rivers that flows north in the state. Chief Osceola and Chief Jumper hid out and waged war against the United States from the inaccessible swamps of this river. One of the old Methodist churches in the area still has a false floor that had been built for them to hide under in the event the Seminoles came through during a time of worship.

Sorry, not Philips Lake, Philbrook Lake is the correct name. Sucks to get old.

First spring ride a few years ago at Lake Le Aquna (you can see the lake is still frozen).

There should have been boats in that lake and yes, that is now called a boat ramp by local riders.
