Notice my buddy's bike in the back. Everything he had was wet.

He would dry some and strip off and then add more wet clothes in the dryer.

Northern Laos... just south of the China border

Laos - Route 4B... "impassable in wet"

Route 4B... sideways to my intended direction of travel.... dropoff was "large"

Yeah... that one proved deep enough to stop the engine running

Yeah... OK.... so I recruited some locals to carry my gear... the bike, drowned... got left on the track, 5km out from the village in Southern Laos

You gotta be joking. That last picture very well killed this thread :evil

Do these bikes come with gills?

I'll never feel the same if it rains. For sure. :deal

Couple more. This was the most diabolical wet weather ride I've ever done. Route 118 near Chiang Mai, Thailand. There's a stretch there through the hills that claims a LOT of lives - three the week before this photo was taken, 20 in a bus the year before. It gets a layer of diesel on it and its already not got a lot of traction. Just after this, Phil and I were down to 50 kph and sliding around everywhere - and even slower in the corners

Same trip, the day before, over near Nan. Loved this guy's plastic bag rain helmet

If you look closely near the yellow sign you can spot my brother trying to put on his rain gear... he was rather drenched by the time he got everything on.

We found temporary shelter for the whole gang at an abandoned bank (can't remember the town). Picnic table was a bonus! Break out the mobile devices and check that storm track...

Just stumbled across a couple of "riding in the rain" pics from Sumatra.... this time last year. This was on the ride up to the first town after crossing from Java on the ferry. Got a bit gnarly

Speaking of gnarly.... I rode from Berastagi down to Bukit Lawang in Sumatra, and went the back way... through the National Park. I dropped 5,000 feet in about 12 miles.... and it bucketed down on me. This was the "road". I had a white screen on the GPS, there was no-one else on the road for 90 minutes... which is a pretty rare event in Asia and I was thinking I'd be sleeping on the rocks.

I'd given up carrying wet weather gear by then. It was warm enough in the rain. I should point out... that's rather steep there, although it doesn't really show. The road was "paved" with those river rocks the whole descent... to stop it washing away. Some of them quite large. I'm 6'6" and I couldn't touch ground a lot of the time if the wheels weren't lined up right among the rocks. btw... its a tiger reserve. Didn't particularly want to sleep in there.... and it was getting very dark. Arrived at Bukit Lawang in the dark, still wet
