I've been intrigued by bikes before, but never really got the itch. I've been a pretty hardcore car gearhead for decades now. My friend Cole is a huge motorcyclist and he's been patiently working on me to get a bike.

Awhile back I was over at his house helping him install a transmission in his Eurovan and he showed me his wife's "new" bike, a Capt America F650 Dakar. The minute I saw it I was blown away, totally enthralled. I threw a leg over it and thought, "Hmmm, I'd like to own one of these!"

After a shortish search and some posts here I met up with fixn2go today and bought his F650 Dakar. The bike is in immaculate shape and he sent me home with all the service records, two seats, plus a spare air and oil filter. It was a pleasure meeting you Dave and I promise to take good care of it!

Good thing I helped Cole with his Eurovan as that's what we loaded the bike up in to bring it home in the snow.

I'm a total noob as far as riding goes, well at least things that aren't pedal powered. Next up for me is to register for the motorcycle safety class and get some gear (jacket, pants, boots and gloves).

First pic is in fixn2go's driveway, second pic is in my garage.

Looking forward to meeting all of you!

Congratulations! I have an '03 Dakar that has served me well the past 7+ years. It's a great do it all bike.

Good crew of folks in the Rockies forum, and the riding within a day of Denver is amazing...I miss it.

Have fun, and update your sig line :rofl

Thanks guys! What you don't see in my garage are the storage racks along the side of the garage, plus all my tools and beer fridge on the other side of the garage.

Behind the bike is my tire trailer that I pull behind my race car to the track. Once the race car comes home from the shop I'll have to rearrange things a little to fit both the bike and the race car in that bay...

Oh, I'm on the hunt for gear, so if anyone has jacket/pants etc they're thinking of selling, please let me know. I wear a 44-46 size suit jacket (L) and have wear 36" pants...

After you get yourself squared away with the bike you should come out to one of the rallies later in the summer. Great place to meet a bunch of nice folks. As a relatively new rider (just over 2 years) I was welcomed at the WestFest rally in Lake George, CO last summer and picked up lots of riding tips and some new friends.

Check out the RMAR in Silverton 7/25-7/28:

Or this years WestFest in Buena Vista 8/9-8/11:

Lots of folks ride their bikes to the rallies, but many trailer them and camp in comfort.

I will be at RMAR this year, hopefully with some other newish riders from Los Alamos.

Best wishes and welcome to the asylum.

That's a real bummer dude! Sorry about the 650 Dakar.

Didn't you know that this is a girls bike? Did anybody explain to you just how emasculating these bikes are?

A girl's bike .....You know, like Cole's wife ....... and adventure girl .......etc. etc. Should've been a clue for you. :deal

I can't believe that your "ADV friends" let you do this. I guess you've still got a few months to get rid of it and save face.

One of my amigos bought one of these red, white and blue 650s. He had to buy a Ural with a hack and a machine gun just to get the bad taste of that girlie bike out of his mouth. It was very sad. And that's not the end of the story. :huh He eventually had to move out of the country (Panama) just to escape the stigma.

    Not really! !!!!!
I'm just messing with you! :lol3 Had you going didn't I?
Welcome to ADV and congrats on the new bike. :clap

Road Damage, not to worry, I plan on mounting a shotgun case to the side of it and maybe painting some skull and bones on the front fender to "butch" it up a bit. Perhaps some of those leather handlebar tassles that all the Harley guys have too. :D

I'd love to make it out to some rallye's this summer, hopefully I can find the time. 1 weekend a month is taken up by my Air Force duty, then I try to make it out to the track with my race car 1 weekend a month too. Gonna have to get creative with my time so I can have some adventures on the bike!

I really want to ride some fire roads up in the mountains and be able to get a little further in that you can with a car and soak it all up...

Feel free to hit me up when the snow melts. Dirt roads and 4x4 trails are my favorite kind of riding.

I'm always happy to bring somebody on a F650 or KLR friendly ride. Argentine pass to Redcone comes to mind.
