The latest installment: Pam was considering selling at least one of Trevor's bikes to help finance the purchase of a suitable van to carry his wheelchair; one of the bikes in question, a 1981 CB650

To determine a potential value, I showed this picture to a customer of mine who is a expert on old Hondas; he got the strangest look on his face, took my phone to one of his warehouse guys who said "hey, that's my bike!" Turns out he had sold the bike some time ago to "some hipster dude" who had totally restored the bike; of course, "hipster dude" turned out to be Trevor.

Lets keep Trevor's bikes his. Hit the EverRibbon site. We can do this and have to keep from having Pam sell his bikes that he will ride again!

I agree; the latest plan is to use one of Trevor's bikes as a therapy tool, involving him in the process of getting it running and restoring it as a sidecar rig; my buddy with the Ural has been awesome to make himself available, but sometimes things just don't work out. I'm going to check out two of Trevor's bikes this weekend, the 81 CB650 and an older CB 750; stay tuned.

    The journey continues...

" I don't want to sleep in that bastard's house; he went home to sleep and left me to forget!!!"

Think about those words, uttered by a fellow adventurer confined to a wheelchair, his memory ruined, childhood sweetheart gone. This was Trevor's response when they were presented with an initial settlement that included Nathan Ray's house, the very house he fled to after leaving Trevor for dead on the interstate.

Pam is having another pre-trial meeting today; the court date is 2/4, and it seems like everyone, even her attorneys, are pressuring her to settle. Life altering decisions are being made right now ; please keep her in you thoughts and prayers. My time to help is over for the time being, all I can do now is trust and plan for a very uncertain future.

Trevor just turned 30, so he now throws up the 3...

the trip comes to an end...

the settlement process has been very hard on Pam and Trevor; there have been three parties involved: Nathan Ray, the Ray family who let their son drive their car so he could bypass the court-ordered breathalyzer on his own car, and the strip club that continued to serve Ray after he was inebriated to the point he remembers nothing from 10 PM that night until he was arrested at home in bed after striking Trevor. The strip club offered settlement first on terms of strict confidentiality; it was a fair offer, and Pam was advised to take it.

the offer from the Ray family was insulting in the extreme; funds to buy a van, the title to Nathan Ray's house, the very house he went home to that night, and 25K to make the house handicapped accessible. This prompted Trevor's response:

" I don't want to sleep in that bastard's house!! he went home and went to bed and left me to forget!!"

The Ray family is very well connected, and has had two years to squirrel away money literally around the world; Pam's fear was that they would declare bankruptcy if the settlement was too large and collection would be difficult or even impossible. Trevor insisted on a courtroom trial so he could confront the Ray family; keep in mind that his mental state is tenuous, and this could have been good or it could have been very bad, so you can see why the room went silent when he raised his hand at the settlement hearing. He truly is a unique individual, even in this diminished state; I'm a jaded 51 year old fat boy, and I'm sometimes in awe of the guy; feel like a Trevor fanboy.

anyway, a settlement was reached; the numbers will be public record, but I still don't feel comfortable posting them here. It was nowhere near the amount that it should have been, in my opinion, but Pam thinks that she can make it work; with careful management it should take care of his needs for quite some time. Pam was concerned that the whole process was turning them bitter and detracting from Trevor's recovery, so they are ready to move on. The next step is to get the surgery on his leg set up so he can at least stand; he asks a thousand times a day when he will get "walking surgery". Speech therapy is another area for immediate attention; in another twist of fate, Thumpstart's girlfriend is a speech pathology major and there is a program through the local university that provides assistance in this area. We are also exploring the option of getting Pam more suitable transportation, possibly a rear entry van... Life goes on.

So where do I go from here? I now understand how a foster parent feels when a child leaves the home; the last year has been a whirlwind of activity, never knowing what my limits where, wanting to be effective but at the same time not being intrusive. It's almost like preparing for a great battle, then the battle is over, and then what? We do have plans of creating a side business that Trevor can someday help with involving the marketing of his epic ride report, as well as setting up a foundation to help other victims of Traumatic Brain Injury... please PM me if you have any experience with graphic design, printing, etc, and I will explain further.

maybe this trip isn't over after all...

I am happy to see the legal stuff coming to an end so that Trevor can continue treatment and therapy.

Boxnife@gmail.com Is Trevor's personal email, should you choose to donate.

I've been keeping the kerncountykid thread updated, but here's the latest: March 19, Trevor is to have the first of his surgeries to correct his left leg, and they are postponing the operation on his left arm until he recovers sufficiently. The local inmates took him out the other night, a good time was had by all...

Dropped another donation @ Trevor's EverRibbon page.

Regarding the 'hot NCIS type'... would she by any chance be from Air Force Office of Special Investigations, Detachment 327 at Little Rock AFB?

It's crazy the people/places/situations I have seen since this journey started

Just talleyed up the total donations of the ADV crew; not counting the anonymous donators(which I'm sure are inmates as well), we have raised

    $7100.00:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap

this money has been spent on Trevor's meds, when Pam's insurance wouldn't cover them due to changes in Medicare after 1/14, for gas to get Trevor's back and forth daily to rehab at Timber Ridge, for wheel chair ramps on Pam's vehicle, and various pieces of therapy equipment.

Although a settlement has been reached, the difficult part begins, ensuring that the settlement can be collected in a timely manner. Pam has a meeting with the judge on Tuesday, unless this latest batch of precip causes it to cancel, to discuss the utter lack of cooperation from the Ray family. She is currently looking for a suitable van to replace her wheezing SUV, but can't pull the trigger until the actual funds are forthcoming.

as always, you guys rock; come through Little Rock this summer and I'll set you up; the inmates came through at a time when all others have fainted.:thumb:thumb:thumb
