Neighbor apparently has a mint YSR50 for sale, although I forgot to ask the year and it is at his other house, but I think I might be able to nab this thing cheap, he knows nothing about motorcycles and just says it has low miles and is not damaged, although he paid retail for it when he got it so I don;t wanna insult him with a lowball, I'm thinking if I can nab this thing mint for 750 I ought to be good, they are factory street legal too.

Firts 'road bike' I ever rode was a ysr 50. Guy we knew had two of them, rode one over one day when I was 12 or 13 and I got to ride it around the yard, coolest thing ever, I always wanted one. If you can get it then do, they're cool.

Decent shape for $750 is a steal. $1500-2500 for a decent, unmolested one around here.

YSR50.....thats the 50 cc liquid cooled 2 stroke 6 speed little street bike right? Those things are pretty cool and iirc go pretty damn fast for being what they are size wise. If its in good shape i think $750 would be a good deal.

No, aircooled, built 1987 to 1990 IIRC. Honda make a liquid cooled version called the NSR50.

Update, bike is an 89, apparently in perfect shape, ridden for a week once a year until a few years ago and then stored in his garage, he wants 1400 if I like what it looks like, this horribly high?

That's about right, from what I've seen on YSR boards. About $1200 for a low to mid-2K's for modded bikes.

You can shoehorn all kinds of different motors in there. :evil

Crazy fun. A friend of mine had one and I had a blast on it.

In Alberta here, we have a whole race series in the mini roadbikes.

I'd love to get in on one of those and race on the track.

I've got a YSR 50 right now. If it's unmolested and cosmetically good, $1400 isn't a terribly high price.

You can get anything you need for race or sport mods on these bikes from Team Calamari Racing. For adult riding its worth ordering their "Right Spring Kit" which adds a spring and spacer to the right fork which comes from the factory without said parts. Other farkles in their catalog are pretty tempting too. Yamaha still has a good many parts available, and Dunlop still has DOT legal race quality tires to fit them.

I rode mine in the 23rd Annual True Grits Rally in north GA last October. I did the 64 miles in 2 hrs 04 minutes with stock gearing. And those were some steep and twisty mountain roads.

I've watched the prices over the last couple of years I've had mine and the value seems to hold steady for the good examples at between $1600 - $2500.

I was there too on my NS50....Is that the first time you rode in it? If not, is it always that cold????? I stayed at the Econolodge in Dahlonega and though I was gonna freeze on the ride up to TWO that morning....The NS hardly has enough juice to power the headlight much less my gerbings....

That was my first time, but I camped there at TWO. The guy in the tent next to me pulled out thermometer from inside his tent that read 28F about and hour after sunrise.

A little before the start, the dash board thermometer in my car read 31F, and it was up by the lodge. :huh

I heard some regulars talking about how it usually rains at some point during the rally most years.

    Great fun, wasn't it though?

Yeah, if you look at the Speed TV video towards the end when they were distributing the bake sale cookies, I'm at the left edge of the screen stuffing one of the cookies into my face. Blue denim shirt and orange True Grits cap on.

My nephew up in Macon saw it and called me to give me crap about always eating....

I've had my YSR up for sale, but no serious takers. If it doesn't sell by October, I will definitely do it again at hte True Grits - with slightly taller gearing to take advantage of the long downhills.
