Oscar with his handling issues didn't last long in the river rock. I was waiting for him at the next turn when a couple of guys pulled up and said they had helped him pick up the GS.

Thanks for the vids too!!! I have yet to sort mine out....:lol3

That river gravel was pretty deep and the big pig didn't like that at all. I did change the rebound settings after that and the bike handled a lot better untill........

We were laughing at their cleaning skillz too, as she was cleaning his bike as well.....Now where can I find a woman like that down here??? :scratch :rofl

That repaired pannier that same day...And it is waterproof as later I repaired it with screws, Goop and Gorilla tape. Never leave home without Gorilla tape. John's "overpacked" bike carried Duct tape and got us going again. I did have Duct tape too, but not in the sheer quantiy John had. No arguing with a full roll of the stuff... :deal
Note to all: Bring a full roll....

    Thanks guys!!:D

Well lets see here :scratch so the pannier was fixified for now :1drink , we had a bike sharing a room :freaky , and met cool folks on the way :kumbaya .

July the 3rd was a dusty day of 217 miles in AR. On the way we met a really cool guy named Owen. He has a workshop with huge equipment and is willing to lend a hand if any more TAT riders stop by. He can weld....:deal . Owen may actually have a sign up by now too.
Now I forgot where exactly he is located, but believe me you can't miss the barn, as it is genormous. John has pics I am sure.....:lurk

We met many locals who were all wondering why the bikes they saw, were only going one way. We explained the TAT to them and now they understand and will keep an eye out too..Again, lots of friendly folks out there too.

We stopped for lunch at a neat bridge.
    John checking it out.

    The "local"

In the PM we did a watercrossing to wash of the dust....

    John going thru 'deep' water....

And I also let my bike rest in it's natural position after the rear tire slipped of a rock....:poser
That by the way was a steep piece of road and it doesn't show well here.
It was a precursor of what was to come the next day.....:vardy

This was the second and also the last time I dropped it while riding the rest of the trip. Might as well get that part over with sooner than later right??...:lol3 After all we had no idea what would be in store for us the following day..... :amazon.

    Stay tuned.....

    Hi Gale & Sandy!!
Glad to see you guys are fine. How was the hike?? The tent was a great concept but as you saw first hand, those inserts were waaaay too thin...
The get-off was not bad and wearing that Koerta pressure suit saved my hide form harm. I was not even bruised and did not have a mark on me..:clap Oscar

    Happy B'day USA!

What better way to start the day at Walmart :puke1 for a supply run. After all John needed oil for the Tiger and I needed a drill and bits, bolts and lubricant for a squeaky rear end. At the time I suspected that the lower mounting bolt for the rear shock was squeeking.....More on that a tad later...

I found a small 4 AA battery powered thingy and small bolts to properly fixify the right pannier, which I did a little later that week.
We started our ride amids similar idyllic looking scenery we both had enjoyed so much the previous day.

We started by going around, or in my case through , a downed tree here and there...I did come out wearing a few branches...:D

    A bit of gravel....

Nice single track with trees lining the sides...

So cool looking and the temps were right too....

And than the really, really, really bad part of Warloop Road...:eek1

Warloop road is a name that should live in infamy as it all started so cool, going from a single lane paved road, to a tree lined dual track road, followed by a stretch of single track, followed by what may as well the the Laurentian Abyss with rocks strewn about.....
I wish I had pics with a reference of some sort in it as this, John was to tired to model......:rofl
As it turned out, this was the nastiest road of the entire trip including Colorado...

John and I took a bit of a rest when we got a visitor....

This young man was riding a more appropriate bike for this "road".
His eyes bulged a bit when he saw us down there and he asked how we made it down. Well, I said that gravity did most of it and this was true to some extent. Neither John or I dumped our bikes here, but we both lost 2 pounds each doing it. Later I met up with some Aussie's who dumped their DR 650's about 9 times.....

Anyway, the young man went UP the hill but not before dropping his bike at the drop-off where the pavement had disappeared. We heard a small plea for help and John and I ambled/ crawled back up to help out the intrepid rider. No ATGATT either, but when you're 12 or so you bounce better....:lol3

After drinking all our remaining water, we rode toward a small convenience store, where a few locals were wondering about our sanity after telling our 'tale of lore and Warloop'...I should have worn a peg-leg and eye patch...:rofl :rofl

This was also the day I had earlier played with the rebound on my suspension and found it was waaaay to hard. I attribute these adjustments in keeping the big pig from falling at the battle of Warloop.

John made a cool video of my squeaky decent into the Abyss. It will show how steep and rough it really is....
The squeak will be explained a bit later....:evil

    The end of Warloop...:clap

    Another watercrossing...:D

Camping that night was done at a very neat and very cheap place worthy of Advriders......:deal At $ 3,= a night P/P, it was the cheapest place of the trip and it had the best shower to boot!! :clap

I think we ate all our food that night....:dg :kumbaya

Boy did we catch some :snore that night...
