The weather forecast was min 24C - max 37C for the day, but DaveP, GrahamG, Desert Hack, 'noobie' Edosan & myself were in need of a "bakery fix" so a sunrise start was in order to beat the heat..

The target was Strathalbyn Bakery "only 52 kms away" :deal ...........................................for anyone else :augie

.............. some 140kms later after zig zagging the Ashbourne Valley, we finally sated out appertite :*sip* :dg

With the fast open tracks, a rest break was soon in order

................and it wasn't long before we had the local groupies checking us out :sweeti

But time was pressing, so we soldiered on at a comfortable pace :evil .......................

Despite riding a baby CRF230L our self proclaimed "noobie" was no slow coach. :huh

One could tell by the smooth, precise lines he was taking, he had an experienced eye for speed. Maybe not so much on two wheels at this stage, but it wouldn't be long before he would be showing us all up. :ricky

    Even BMW's have talents too

After 100kms or so of easy, enjoyable, scenic comfortable riding, we found our 200 metres from hell :p3rry

The relief of clearing the ruts successfully was soon squashed by what lay ahead :eek1 ..... deep sand.

..................... including being swallowed by a huge hole in the middle, before powering out the otherside

lucky for some, that is :lol3

    Not so for others :p3rry

Damn! ! Damn ! damn! :baldy ......................................... MB caught it on camera :lol3

    The sand was next :eek1

Getting his eye in along the fence line, DH successfully reached the other side :clap

Edosan cruised past on his featherweight CRF

Well! ...... nearly before taking a slight diversion to the left for a camera close up

At this stage a sense of relief was felt, when a destinctive thud was heard behind :huh

Spinning around to see this :rofl

Our other fairly new recruit was obviously not familiar with the speed of DRTrev & MB's cameras & thought he had got away with it :lol3

A sense of tension could be felt in the air, as he looked ahead to see what was next :eek1

skilfully he guided his weapon for a close up photo as well :rofl

This was certainly a track to remember, finishing with, would you believe, a water crossing, even after the recent heatwaves :huh

Time to compare notes & relax the muscles :lol3

A few more clicks of dirt tracks before our goal ......... some 3.5 hours & 140 kms of sheer pleasure :poser

Edosan & Desert Hack had pressing engagements & went there ways while us others took a more varied :evil route home.

This is the closest I could catch the TDM at speed. :D

Great morning ride with great company & a few laughs, thanks guys. :clap

I didn't want to make it too obvious in the report. :evil ........................... (relaxing muscles & all :D)
No doubt about you Trev, you've got a eye for detail, or is it just knowing from experience where to look after an incident like that :rofl

We only do it to help improve your riding :D

Hey Dude (there's that song again), don't think you're special mate, we do what we do for everyone.......think of it as an Internet entertainment service:lol3.

It's been a long time for me MB, my Classic moment is five years old in April......time has healed nothing. Still got numbness in left shoulder and right one has been cut and shut to the extent that i can't throw a ball properly and if I ride for extended periods it feels like someone is turning a corkscrew between my shoulder blades.......but, much better than what could have been.....

Its all about lifestyle Trev. sitting behind a desk, munching on bakery delights and too much booze. Now that your about to retire you can join a gym, kick the booze and start a healthy diet. You will soon be throwing your balls around again.:lol3 Sorry for the hijack Kym. Looks like another great day out. Got to get organised and get out for a ride soon looks like you were all having a great ride. Good to see another small Honda leading the way:clap

Yeah, but I don't have to drink that Cascade Light crap like you do.......:puke1. At least I look forward to joining MB more often on these rides....you never know, I may be able to assist him on camera duties. Only four days at work this week and then it's all over.

Do you remember the guy who overshot a corner on Pine Hut Rd years ago and bogged his bike...Honda I reckon? As you and I approached him he sang out that he didn't need any help....we had to tell him that we weren't there to help, we were recording it for the benefit of the WWW.:lol3

Did any of your new friends consider coming to the Classic?

This was my first ride since becoming an inmate and first off, it was not only a great day out but as a noob I was made to feel especially welcome - a big thanks to DaveP, GrahamG, Desert Hack and of course, to Masterbrewer for the astonishing selection of roads.

I'm a relatively new rider having only got my licence for the first time last year, at 57 years of age, and I chose the little beginners trail bike (Honda CRF230L) because I am quite short and not yet a confident rider. Not once, did the inmates make me feel out of place or unwelcome with such a novice machine and if there is anyone else out there who hesitates to join a local ride (especially one like this) because of having only a small bike or lacking experience, just forget it and get out there.

I'd also like to especially thank Gonescratchin for suggesting I join in a few weeks ago - great advice thanks, mate.
