Since I've worked on consumer electronics, I know how helpful bug reports and feature requests can be to a product development team. Since the Zumo is brand new, I'm hoping they'll be open to listening to requests from users on defects to fix as well as feature recommendations. I'd like to start a thread for reporting these things, as if you were making the report to Garmin themselves. I'm willing to bet they're reading this forum, as well it'd be good to see what other people are experiencing.

    I'll start:

Bug: MP3 player only lists 500 songs when play All is used (number shows xxx/500) when more than 500 tracks are loaded onto SD card.

Bug: MP3 Track number metadata ignored when playing by album. Tracks play in alphabetical order.

Feature request: Playlist support for .pla files in MP3 player

Feature Request: Next Track button wanted on Map page (similar to Telephone button, shows up only when MP3 playback in use). Single button should allow user to skip to next track in one button, meaning I don't have to navigate away from the map page to the MP3 playback page to move to the next audio track

Bug: .GPX file not recognized on SD Card. I had moved a .gpx file to the SD card via my card reader, inserted it into the Zumo, and it failed to recognize the new route, or offer to import it. Putting the same file into the /garmin drive when mounting the GPS via USB direct connect allowed the route to be imported.

Feature Request/Bug Fix: Apparently all routes , including Mapsource generated custom routes, are subject to recalculation if you go off route and there is no option to stop the recalculation. There are many valid reasons for not wanting your routes recalculated and many other Garmin units offer the "Recalculate? Yes/No option" So Garmin, please fix this!

    Thank you.

I second that. Price one without those extras.

That's the 500 I believe that has been discussed in other threads.

    Now for mine:

    1. Software feature to manually overide or provide control over the audio personality of the zumo, similar to button size. When the zumo is plugged into a car mount it acts one way, bike mount the other. Those of with current Starcom's, Autocom's, Baehr or other intercoms that do more, like passenger intercom, two way radio or radar need this so that the BT will act properly and not route mp3 and navigation audio to the BT cellphone interface on the intercom - it really sucks since audio coming in on the cell phone port overrides all other sources on the intercom. :baldy When it is in "cage" mode it is perfect for our intercoms.
    2. Road/area avoidance (like the 2820), hell, on a bike, it's more important than a cage.
    3. Weather button and screen just like the 2820. More important to see the weather on a bike than in a cage, right :dunno
    4. Ditto on being able to shut off auto recalc.

Don't see that on Garmin's website, Phil; is there actually such a thing available, or is that a non-waterproof version?

The Zumo 500 is a European only model, but it does still come with MP3 playback and BT. Here is the Gamin UK link: http://www.garmin.com/uk/automotive/zumo500deluxe.htm

I thought I had read on another website that it would also be coming to the states. Don't know when, but I would follow the lead time from when the zumo first hit the EU until we got it. :dunno

I guess I should have said, "As of right now, it's a Euro only model".

If I bought a Euro model Zumo, can I add the US maps and have it work here?

Never mind, the 500 goes for $880 on Amazon UK. Yikes!

    Bug:
    1) Uploading complex waypoints & routes from the Zumo to MapSource version 6.11.6 causes MapSource to fail. I have reported this and they are working on fixing this.

    2) It is supposed to only recalculate the route to the nearest waypoint not the entire route but it recalculates the entire route and even re-orders (optimizes) the waypoints destroying a route that is a loop.

    Feature Requests:

    1) Be able to turn OFF the auto re-calculation!!!!!!
    2) Have a routing option to avoid Interstates and Major Highways but not all the Minor Highways that motorcyclists love. Scenic-Backroads what ever you want to call it.
    3) Be able to load topo maps, like the 2610
    4) Put the Bicycle routing back, and replace Truck, Bus, or Taxi, I thought this was designed for a motorcycle???

    Two more things:

Feature Request: Be able to change/customize the main map and dashboard
displays. I really like the MPH and Trip odo on the dashboard, but I don't want my Top Speed showing in case I get a visit from Officer Friendly. Also, when I'm following a route, I'd like to be able to turn on the Distance to Final on the main map page. Currently it's burried three pages in. I'd also like to have a Next Track button on the main map page, so I don't have to go 2 pages away to skip the Britney Spears track someone put on my SD card as a cruel joke. Also, why have 2 sets of buttons that do the exact same thing, meaning Zoom? there's the plus/minus on both the Map screen as well as on the left side of the unit <mechanical buttons> that seem to do the exact same thing.

Feature Request: More finite volume increments for audio. I use a set of wired headphones on the bike, and with the 10 (?) bars of volume level, the difference between 6 is 7 is I can barely hear it and too damn loud. Maybe go to a 1-100 scale with single unit increments?

Weather screens and output as on the 376 (Nexrad) and not the local listing style on the 28XX.

Mine plays albums in track number order. What version of firmware do you have?

    Enhancement request:
    -Add the altitude display somewhere.
    -Display time/distance to:
    a)next waypoint
    b)final destination
all on the same page (a la GPS V)

I believe as some has asked, you can use Topo. I did see it on a Zumo at the NEC bike show.

    Here's my feature request:

Option to turn off Auto re-calc.
Option to turn off Auto zoom.
    More infinite adjustment on volume.
Individual volume adjustment for Phone and Camera warnings (currently has Navigation and MP3).
Altimeter in conjunction with Satellite status page with Co-ordinates of current location showing.

    Okay, okay, I've got it:

Stuff the guts of a 2720 with the SIRF chipset into the Zumo case with the left hand buttons. Yeah, that's the ticket...

I think that is what everyone that bought the Zumo thought they were getting, at least I did.

I've got a few feature requests:

    • I would love to have the ability to display my current Lat and Long. I mean after all I can set Lat and Long points to navigate to so why can't I see where I'm at currently? (maybe the feature is hidden in there somewhere)
    • Altitude display and ability to view altitude information on a loaded map (granted I haven't checked out trying to load a topo map yet).
    • Support for SD cards larger than 2GB
