Over on the ST-owners list a number of folks have found the Garmin Zumo 550 on clearance at their local BestBuy for $539.

Seems some locations are clearing them out so it's probably worth a trip to your local store if you've been thinking about the 550.

There must be some truth to it because I couldn't find the Zumo's at any best buys in this area (central Mass).

None in SF Bay Area in NorCal or Montclair in SoCal at that price. Their "clearance price" is $719.99, which does seem to indicate they are phasing them out.

The BB in Citrus Heights, CA (Sacramento) had them on sale at a closeout price of $539 when I was in the store this afternoon.

My daughter just picked up one for me at the BB in Lakeville, MN for the $539 price.

Maple Grove and Blaine each had one left at the $539 price also, but the other Best Buys in the Twin Cities area where showing them at $899 or $719. Go figure!

Looks like I can drive north 2.5hrs and get the deal,if I did not already have a NavII and a 376c.

My guess is a "motorcycle" GPS is a too narrow market for BB. That's why they are clearing them.

Thanks for the heads up! Got mine at BB in East Brunswick, NJ for $539.99! They had 1 more left which looked like an open box for anyone who still wants one. Now to see if this is better than my 2820 :evil ....

Yeah I was in Roseville CA today and passed by the GPS area and saw the 550. It was $548 there but they didn't have any in stock. They referred me to the online site.... which was $800 or so. Bummer. Screaming deal at $548 if you can find one.

I just picked one up in Birmingham for $539.99 and I had a $50.00 Best Buy gift card for test driving a Ford a few months ago. $538.59 out of pocket including tax!

IIRC, they did the same thing about a year or so after the TomTom Rider came out...maybe it's just a "product freshening" cycle. The Garmin Nuvi 8xx's are now shipping so I'm willing to bet they want the shelving space for those instead.

FWIW, I saw them on sale yesterday at a BB in Bailey's Crossroads, VA.
