That is so close the difference is negligible.
The wrong size would be 76 x 63
You are safe buying that one.

^ I like the way you think, but the nerd on the phone told me since I opened the unit they can no longer accept it.... even for $150. I tried my best to convince him that the unit was broken, I was simply trying to fix it and save them and mysellf the time and effort.

I said something like "you should be able to trust me on this, obviously this is a recurring issue (digitizer) with the Zumos, so you would suspect I'm not trying to pull your leg. I repaired it and while connecting the ribbon cable back the connector fell off the board. Why should I be offered something less than someone else with a faulty Zumo?"

He's like "First of all I've never heard of that problem with Zumos [roll eyes] and I'm telling you, since you opened it we cannot do anything for you...."

Before going ape shit on the guy I slammed down the phone and licked my wounds.

That connector on the board can be replaced. I don't currently have a decent solder workstation but I've done that type of finicky rework. In other words, don't throw the unit off a cliff. Worst case sell it to an inmate.

I suspect that the touchscreens are going to be a recurring problem on the Zumo 550....as well as the buttons falling off. A savings of 120 bucks or so achieved by replacing them yourself seems like a reasonable risk tradeoff.

I'm considering buying a couple of spare sets in case the supply dries up. I like the 550 better than the later models and see no reason to "trade up"...at least not until they offer some new capability I can't resist! :deal

You may have an expired warranty period, but once you open the case, they say they will not give you a out of warranty replacement for $150.

I don't remember any seal on my 376c when I took it apart for the internal battery replacement - but don't know about the Zumo. IIRC, there were some people who have received $150 replacements for some rather heavily damaged units :evil

It appears to me that this seller is now selling the unit only that has the LCD and the touch screen together? Am I reading this right? So this should be an easier installation than separating the two if you just get the digitizer right? Mine has became a brick as well and I really miss my Zumo, I am so ready to attempt this fix!

Update! Sorry I forgot to add the linky!

Go for it! Garmin is back ordered on Zumo 550's and I may not get mine for a trip I have scheduled next weekend. DOH! Now I'm wishing I had done it myself.

^ Buying just the digitizer is still a pretty easy fix (but does carry risks). I haven't seen where the digitizer and LCD are sold together (already assembled).

Just a thank you for this GREAT thread! :clap My 550 had been sitting on my desk for months since I wasn't willing to pay to fix it, then it sat a month more waiting for me to install the digitizer... But it was incredibly easy, just as described. Thanks!

    Cheers!

I just changed out my touch screen digitizer on my 4 year old Zumo 550.
I was starting to get all the crazy phantom presses, and generally was unable to get to any pages I needed.

On ebay, I ordered from Goodsupply0889 a new 79 X 64.5 digitizer for $29, including shipping. I was pleasantly surprised to receive it in only 7 days to SoCalif. And he included the adhesive tape with it. Good source!

The Zumo came apart easily with a 1.5mm hex, and unlatching the 2 contact leads made the job smoother.
The installation went easily, but you should only razor blade off the old digitizer and glue that sits on the black frame. Do not disassemble the black frame that mates to the steel frame that encases the actual LCD screen. I did take everything apart, but discovered it was difficult to reassemble properly, and was unnecessary.

I very lightly greased the thin rubber gasket and put everything back together carefully in good light.
After booting the Zumo into the calibration mode, I discovered the screen to be nicely sensitive, unlike my original screen.
Now it works better than new, and I am a happy rider once again.

Has anyone else tried out this digitizer-LCD combo? Mine too just went south this week at ~2 years old.

I did the digitizer and lcd replacement when I did mine. Worked fine. I didn't look at your link though to see if it is the same as the one I ordered. I just made sure I was ordering the same size as what I had. I did that by opening up my zumo and measuring before I ordered.

Got to love the internet!!!!! I was ready to spend $150 with garmin on my Zumo 550 when I came across this thread. Went to EBAY and ordered the digitizer from Mingxing200808 for $17.26 delivered. Bought on the 7th and got it on the 15th. Put it in, broke the latch on small ribbon connector but slipped new one in and glued to board so it wouldn't come loose. Works great , in fact like others I might order the combo digitizer/LCD just in case. Thanks to all on here!!!!!
