Yeah, thought about packing a spare if I were to go on a long trip. Mine had failed the last long one and I really missed it for the remainder of the trip. :cry

I bought a 530Hcx when mine died so I would have one for the trip we took. Missed the large screen of the 550 so I am happy to have it back, will use the 530 for the snowmobiling and bike backup.

Just got my replacement digitizer as well from goodsupply0889. there were two pieces of black "reflective sheeting" included with the digitizer screens (I ordered 2 just in case :deal). Anyone have any idea what this is for? it is not mentioned in either of the two "How to's".

that is the adhesive that sticks it back together. look carefully and you can see the cutout that is the sticker for the screen.

So, just to be clear, this is a double sided type of adhesive and I only use the part that would fit around the outside edge of the screen and don't need the large piece that is the same size as the screen, as it would cover the whole screen?

Well, i figured it out!!! very very thin double sided tape! everything is as good as new. the write-ups are well done and accurate, except the screws holding mine together were actually a T-6 torx. Anyway, thanks for the thread and saving me $135!! :clap:clap:clap

I've already replaced mine once. Now I'm thinking of ordering a couple of more spares. Also the case buttons fall apart eventually too. I think they can still be bought as demo cases. Maybe we should stockpile a few of those too.

I recently replaced the digitizer on my 550 and it worked perfectly for a few thousand miles. Now it's acting like the screen is being pushed all the time. Anyone have any ideas?

Uncanny you posted this.........I just had to put my spare to use today, same problem.
The last one worked for 13 months. The original Garmin one lasted 24 months
Anyone else have any input on this subject?

I have been ever so gentle with the last replacement worrying somehow that the original failure was my fault.

For such an expensive GPS I am disappointed to say the least.
And don't begin to mention the so called 'waterproof' cradles:huh

Replaced my screen last night in my Zumo 450. Very easy to do. As others have stated, it is intimidating until you do it once....

Works great with no leaks. Tested that today..... :rofl

Just did my Zumo 550, exactly as described. I didn't have any trouble with screen degrading over time; I had an off and some part of me, the dirt, rocks or trees scratched the screen. :rofl

The screen on my Zumo is also locking up. This week the XM radio started changing stations by itself. Could this be related to the bad digitizer????
Where is the best place to order the correct size digitizer?

I recently replaced the touchscreen on my 550 and within 2 weeks, I was experiencing issues again. I am getting phantom presses again but only in the top right corner of the screen so when on the map screen it constantly zooms in as far as it will go. It is not recognizing other locations on the screen a lot of the time either.

I have found that this is most prevalent when I leave the zumo on the bike overnight and it is parked outside (when camping etc). Sometimes it sorts itself out once the day warms up and sometimes not. Very odd and annoying!

I have another new touchscreen I can put on (I ordered two... just in case :deal), but I was wondering if anyone else is going through this and if there was any other option before I scrap this screen?

My Zumo is getting worse, on top of the touch function of the screen not working, the gps screen locks up updating the map while moving, the XM stations will change suddenly (always goes to HLN), some type of error log screen popped up, and several of the buttons don't work for example the volume button.

So, if I go ahead and open up the unit and replace the digitizer (79mmx 64.5mm ordered from goodsupply0889), is this going to solve the problems above or do I need to send it in to Garmin for $150?

For what an ebay screen is worth, try changing first.
    It is most likely that.
