Few of us can manage a year-long RTW journey or a trans-continental expedition, but the beauty of adventure motorcycling is that it’s about exploring rather than making bucket lists. So if you can only ride one country for a longer period of time, what are some of the best destinations to ride?
Offering easy access, great infrastructure, and plenty of places to rest up or fix your bike, but also full of truly remote areas, desert routes, and mountain twisties, Morocco is perfect for a 2 or 3-month trip. From the coastal roads to the Atlas Mountains, the Sahara desert, and the Merzouga dunes, Morocco is both remote and accessible, and there’s no shortage of paved and off-road routes to last for months. A short ferry ride from Spain if you’ve shipped your bike to Europe, Morocco has got it all, and if you’re Dakar-minded, you can chase some of the big North African rallies to spice up the adventure.
If you could only pick one South American country to explore, Peru is probably the most diverse and fascinating of them all. You can do the easy route visiting Cuzco, Machu Picchu, and Nazca, or you can get into some serious adventure riding Peru off-road and exploring places like Huascaran National park, the dunes of Atacama, the Andean trails near Pallasca, and the Colca Canyon area – all remote, rugged, and still mostly unknown to tourist hordes. Limitless off-road riding, incredible diversity in landscapes, terrain, and cultures, decent weather year-round – Peru is perfect for a two-month ride, and you’ll likely experience all that South America has to offer in just one country.
Much like Morocco, Georgia offers easy access, and much like North Africa, it also has some wild places to ride and explore. At a crossroads between the East and the West, Georgia has a bit of Mongolia, a bit of Swiss Alps, and a bit of Central Asia all rolled into one. There’s plenty of great rest and recharge places in Tbilisi and Batumi, and once you’re off into the mountains, it’s boundless off-road riding and unparalleled local hospitality.
