So you’ve decided to join this whole adventuring? Congratulations, and welcome to the tribe! If you’re itching to get started, here are a few adventure riding hacks make the ride smoother:
Not feeling a hundred percent on off road tracks yet? Confused about maps and GPS choices? Not sure where to go? Join a local riders’ group or partner up with someone more experienced. Having great company on the ride is a major boost for morale – and your skills.
Get Some Training
Nobody is born a Dakar star. We all learn to ride, and we all need some guidance. While tips and advice from friends, partners, and spouses are great, a professional coach will help you much more – and much more efficiently. Be honest with yourself. Do you still struggle with sharp corners? Don’t feel great on pea gravel or sand? Identify areas where you need help and get some.
Dare to Explore
Even if you just got your motorcycle license, a weekend moto-camping trip can instantly turn you from a cautious newbie into an intrepid explorer. Pick a destination, plan your route, pack your bike and just go. There’s nothing like the freedom of the open road!
Don’t Listen to Naysayers
Are you riding an old, beat-up second-hand bike while everyone around you is sporting a shiny new GS? Are you being told you can’t keep up, that your bike choice is wrong, or that you should get yet another brand new farkle? Don’t listen to the naysayers. Ride your ride, whatever it is!
Browse Less, Ride More
Online forums, publications and other resources are great when you need some adventure bike info, pronto. But the one thing that will help you improve faster and ride further is riding. So, get off your desktop or phone, saddle up your loyal steed, and go for a ride!
