Before coming on any Snail Trails ride you must read and agree to the disclaimer here. These are informal social rides with no central organiser or any person taking responsibility for others, and you come on these rides at your risk. No back up vehicles so you'll need to arrange your own bike collection if there's a breakdown that can't be fixed.

Please read about our corner-making system and general guidelines for the ride here, and a general guide to safety gear here.

    SNAIL TRAILS - MAIDENWELL RALLY - 2013

November 2010 saw the first Snail Trails weekender at Maidenwell Pub, organised by myself and Hardhead.

Since then, I've missed every damn one, so I thought I'd get the ball rolling for another one, before the weather gets too hot.

DATE: Saturday 19th October, returning 20th.

MEET: Yowie park, Kilcoy 8.00 am for 8.30 ride out.

My plan is to follow the original Snail Trails route as closely as possible, which will mean Monsildale road, Elgin Vale, Nanango, Maidenwell on the Saturday, and then back via some wicked Bunya Mountains scenery on the Sunday.

The Maidenwell pub staff really love us ADV riders :lol3 and usually put on some very nice food for us on the Saturday night. There's a pool table, and of course, plenty of bar stools to keep you entertained on the Saturday night.
I'll talk to Gavin and see if we can arrange a cooked brekky too, for the Sunday morning.

There is a chance we will have a catered Wood-Fired pizza lunch somewhere on the way home on the Sunday, TBA.

Accomodation at the pub is 3 x double/twin rooms in the pub, 8(?) beds in the adjoining house, and more camping space than you can poke a stick at.

Bags a double room, but apart from that, it's up for grabs.

Being a Snail Trails ride, the pace on this ride will be very easy, and the terrain should be well within the limits of the not-so-seasoned riders, or two ups. There are several weir crossings along the way, which don't take any particular skill, apart from being careful not to slip the back out, and perhaps a little twin track here and there, which should be easy too.
As usual, as with all Snail Trails rides, nobody need do anything they are not comfortable with, and there will be plenty of help on hand if needed.

Fuel range TBA, but I would think 160 klms would be sufficient.
Bike types, anything with rego and licence.

Here are the vids I made of the first ST ride at Maidenwell, it was a fantastic 2 day ride, good company, ripper scenery, and we had quite a few noobs along for it too:clap

NOTE: Please only put your hand up for this one if you are sure you will be able to make it. Numbers may be limited, and there could be a few others keen to get on board.

    Oh dear.
You have picked possibly the worst weekend you could.
It's Pups birthday on Friday the 18th and Boos birthday on Sundaythe 20th.
What do you think the chances of me getting away for this are?

I wonder if we both could escape for the weekend???

Seeing as I just did the similair ride today, and had a steak sandwich at Maidenwell Pub, how could I say no to this one. The pig was even on the spit cooking for tonight.

    Hey Strummer

Those video you posted were some of the first video's I watched of your's that got my ass off my seat to get my license, buy a bike and get into adventure riding. I remember thinking how cool it would be to do this ride with a bunch of great people.

Well I did the ride earlier in the year with another group of awesome riders and had a blast, thanks to all who organised and ran that event. Now that you're putting another ride to Maidenwell on I rekon its going be terrific.

I really do encourage anyone out there in Internet land reading this thread, if you're new to riding or have always dreamt of getting into this sport, this is a great opportunity to get your feet wet (maybe literally). :lol3

Pursuant to my posts of previous.
It appears that Boo was meaning to talk to me about a thing she has on the same weekend.
I might be able to do this run now. Maybe.
If so, sweep and TOD are in.

Thanks for the kind words Mark, and yep, you are spot on, it's the perfect ride for people to sample the delights of a bigger ride, in a supportive and friendly environment. :clap

Although, I'm hopeful people's feet will not be quite this wet....

This was the recce ride Hardhead, Greendude and I did prior to the first Maidenwell run.
I was a noobie to ADV riding back then, and this was the first 'faster' ride I had done.

This was filmed just after a 'significant rain event' and during a time when all the roads out there were seriously affected by water.

This was also my very first video editing effort, and the first I ever uploaded to youtube. :lol3

Just had a look at your spot tracker, it was a bit sketchy the path you took, did you have it off some of the time?

How was the KLE on the trip?
