Anybody familiar with Route 224 (Akron to Indiana) and if it is a good highway alternative to cross the state?
Thanks in advance for any help! I'm looking to get off the Highway when I get out of Pa. and take backroads across the state.

224 is mostly divided highway. If that's what you want, it's probably better than most.
    Flat & straight. Pretty boring.
The further south you get the better the roads and less traffic.

I live in Piketon Ohio. I ride an 12 Dl650 Adventure and an 08 KLR650. I ride a lot of gravel, dirt and unmaintained roads in southern ohio. I also ride as much trail as I can find....it's getting tougher around here because of all the logging. I used to do a couple of national dualsport rides a yaer but I sold my drz last fall.
I'm always looking for like minded people to ride with though.

Way up north here, Seneca county near green springs. All flat up here nothing but pavement, a gravel road is few and far between up here. I ride an 89 xt 600 that I'm about 6 inches too short to ride off road comfortably but it's never stopped me before. I'm definitely tired of all the pavement around here and would be fun to take a trip down further south in ohio and get away from these flat lands when the weather finally breaks. Pulling my clutch cover and replacing the oil check valve so my dry sump will stop turning into a wet sump after
I turn the bike off, and checking out my balancer nuts and all that for tightness. Come on spring.

Figured this would be a good place to introduce myself instead of lurking all the time. My name is Chaz, live in Holmes county (Millersburg) or amish country as most know it. i have a 2000 Triumph Sprint ST 955, 2001 DRZ400s, and a 2003 Harley Road King. I like all types of riding but looking to get into more back/country roads, gravel, and off-road.

Actually I rode thru there a couple weeks ago. 258 is in pretty good shape...unlike most of the roads around here after this winter. There are TONS of good roads in that area and roads south and east of there....if you can stay away from the fricking frackers!:lol3

I'm in N Mich. now, formerly NW Oh. Visit and hunt near Cambridge at my friend's place. I take 23 S. to 229 (just N. of Cols) and go east. Beautiful ride thru Mt Vernon, taking 229 further east and down to 36 into Newcommerstown. Jump S. over the river and PICK A ROAD, I wish N. Mich's roads were that scenic and challenging. Not having deep sand is a treat. Hope to ride down there more, but watch out for Amish buggies. All those small roads and towns are very inviting. $.02 worth.

Summit county near 80/271/. I ride a 2013 DL650. I like back roads mostly. Gravel is fine, maybe a fire road, but I don't want to go on any trails just yet. That bike is too big for anything bordering on technical.

XR400, usually ride within a 20 mile radius of home, 60-70 miles is about the longest ride i've ever done always been solo. Terrain= anything, but keep the highway miles limited.

I spent half a dozen years ontop of a pair of Ducati sportbikes. Now I'm on a BMW F800GS, tooling around Akron. I live near I-77 and OH-18. I'll ride pretty much anywhere in the summer (when I'm seasonally laid off). I'd like to do a lot more gravel/fire roads/novice trails. I haven't ridden real dirt since I was 12, and that was about 25 years ago.
