I prefer to listen to the sound of the campfire and those of nature. I can listen to music at home, work, in the car, in the mall, etc.

I like the nature and campfire sounds too, but i also bring an ecoxgear waterproof bluetooth speaker to hear a few tunes, weather etc from the phone.

Set it on the bike seat or picnic table.

All kinds of music, Irish, country, rock, pop....

I usually prefer the sound of nature but a friend played Enter Sandman by Metallica at full volume on his Land Rover stereo when camped in the middle of the Sahara desert, that song will always remind me of that trip.

Yeah I usually go camping to get away from it all, not to bring it with me. But having said that, I was camping at Hite Marina on Lake Powell with a couple pals several yrs ago, and one of the guys brought a boombox, which I thought was a mistake. But then he played Neil Young's Harvest Moon, and I realized it was the perfect soundtrack for that night. Good campfire going, our bellies full of grub, stars blazing overhead, and Neil singing "Natural Beauty;" like the Old Milwaukee commercial used to say--it just doesn't get any better than this!

Now (like Mark Manley said) whenever I hear that song, I think of that trip, and the memory makes me like the song even more.

    I make my own music...

Custom made-for-moto-travel electric guitar (expertly cut down to size with a jigsaw) and a 9V battery powered amp. Works surprisingly well, and cost next to nothing. The guitar was a Yamaha bare-bones entry level stratocopy that I got for free...

The wee amp, and my Telecaster for scale.

Get the "Heart of Gold" concert dvd...

I have three staples when I camp.
First is the Bon Iver self-titled album. If I'm wishing I were out in the woods camping, just listening to that album takes me there.
Second and third are anything by Sigur Ros (preferably the album Takk) or Olafur Arnalds (preferably the album, For Now I Am Winter).

I play songs through in my head. I do it while I ride as well as while I'm in camp or just hanging out. Kind of a mental exercise, as I visualize the chord changes and voicings. I play bass, and this pretty much is how I learn songs. I don't actually listen to music when I camp, because I don't want to disturb nature or people, and don't like being disturbed (it messes with what I'm trying to listen to in my head :deal ). I've tried the earbuds/iPod thing, but it just doesn't do it for me.

Very nice memory. Neil Young sounds perfect for camping.

Unfortunately, the only songs I remember from my camping trips last two year was the theme song from "Frozen" and "Cups"? I have made it clear that those songs have been banned and the kids must learn a new song or they can cook their own food! :rofl

    Nicely said, John.

Music is a big part of my life and I especially bring it along on my rides. Throughout the day--while I'm riding--I will pump songs into my helmet via a Bluetooth system. When I'm sitting around a campfire, I like to think about music that would match my surroundings. I think about that a lot. Kind of like a "soundtrack for right now" type of thing.

Sometimes it's clasic country (Willie, Cash, Chris LeDoux), sometimes old Soul and R&B. Sitting around a campfire alone, I will recall tunes I hadn't heard in years and vow to put them on my MP3 player's playlist when I get back to civilization.
