Tiger 800 leaning too far on kickstand

Hi,
a bit of info first.
I have a 2014 Tiger 800, just hit 25,000 miles.
I took a trip from California to Haines Alaska in July, about half way there i noticed the tiger leaning over a bit far, was getting hard to get on and off the tiger.. had to start watching where i parked or kick a rock under the Kickstand,

Got back and took it in to the Dealer and was told they could not find anything wrong with the kickstand (But) it is leaning too far over so something is wrong... then was told maybe the frame had bent!!! they would call Triumph and see what they can do (Replace the entire Frame) most likely
outcome.

anyone else have an issue like this. i just can't see the frame being that weak.

The dealer ordered a New Kickstand and mounting parts, installed and under warranty so no cost to me,
we both Compared the parts and still could not find a problem with them nothing seemed bent worn or twisted both new and old kickstand, bracket and bolt, but putting the new one on fixed the problem! so something was out of whack.

the bike is sitting a bit to strate now, in-fact i dumped the bike over getting on it,
now just make sure i pull the compression out of the bike to make it lean more when i get off or on just to be on the safe side.

side note i hit my 1 year mark on my Tiger and 28,000 miles :)

No offence, but how much do you weigh fully loaded for the trip? Perhaps the metal tab where the kickstand attaches has bent from you climbing on and off the bike. Or possibly crash damage??
Can you put a foot/plate on the base of the side stand to raise it up?

Well i did hit the scales at the dump awhile back... loaded, minus the tent and sleeping bag.. me and bike checked in at 820 lb me being 300 of that, i had asked if i was too much weight and was told it was not a problem for the tiger,
and no, no crash damage. as for putting a foot plate on it, thats a good idea but i would be afraid of it bending even more or even snapping off. i did take the kickstand off myself (not believing the dealer) and had a look at everything and it all did look fine. ill pull it back off and have another look at that tab.

on a side note the Tiger was great on the trip, i had no other problems with it.

Do you get onto the bike by standing on the left peg then throwing you right leg over (like getting on a horse)?

Do you have the suspension set high to compensate for your weight? That would cause more lean.

maybe the bolt is worn down

If you can't determine the reason, just echoing XRman's foot suggestion above. I put one on the sidestand of my 2013 and it reduced the lean angle quite a bit (annoyingly so IMO).

Yes,
i was getting on like that to stop my boot drag over the tops of the side-bags, (30in inseam)
but for the trip with a tent and sleeping bag on the rear-seat i couldn't get on that way

putting my foot on the peg to get on was one of the question i had asked the Dealer (service guys) and got the ok to do it, when i first got the bike.

just set it back to standard and it made a lot of difference, but its still seems a bit too far

was thinking that too so i did replace the Bolt, but it made no difference,
if anything its the hole i think there is way too much slop in it..
it could use a bushing to tighten it up a bit.

I'm a 300lb rider as well. I routinely get on my bike like I'm mounting a horse (left foot on peg , and swing right leg over....) but I do it gingerly. I understand the laws of physics , wouldn't take much to bring the old girl down. FWIW , mine is a 14 with 11,000 miles on it. Still looks stock , as far as I can tell.

I'm sure my '14 Tiger leans further than my old Strom I'm always a little tentative when the roadway is not level. If the OPs bike was mine I think I would be trying to find another Tiger to put side by side and eyeball the two bikes. If it turns out that the frame tab for the stand has bent then that is a little bit worrying I guess.

Would you please post up what happens? My '15 XCx has an almost identical problem and I have been advised By Triumph to take it to the Dealer for inspection into a possible warranty claim. It's really going to suck if it IS the frame as it means the Tigger won't nearly manage the weight they've claimed for it which would in turn prompt an inquiry with my Attorney as to the claims Triumph has been making regards the relative features and usability of the bike.

You guys are aware that the side stand actually has it's own bracket right? Hard to imagine a bent frame (though not impossible) , easier to imagine a bent bracket or associated bolts.

I have the opposite problem, the sidestand is too tall. The bike stands up almost straight with kickstand deployed, and any little slope of the ground means I have to turn around to park. A strong blast of wind actually knocked the bike over in Seward.

I have the SW motech foot on, but it was too tall before that.

Thanks Black Rhino. Yep I was aware having purchased most of the parts in the drop down in an attempt to fix it. It didn't help any. So I guess we'll find out what Triumph has got to say after I get time for it to go to the dealership. Also just for anyone's information DO NOT attempt to use a sidestand from an earlier Tiger on the '15 and up models as they changed that part too. Until we can find a genuine Triumph (not BikeBandit) parts fiche we're at their mercy regards actual part numbers. And yes I attempted to replace with the correct parts as well, no joy.

At everyone else....since it's got to go to the dealer......Team Orange where I bought it and Triumph is a little fashion house set to the side or the small boutique dealer that is very good but are slammed to the hilt since Triumph folded the Eugene store to the south?

Buy the xrx kick stand, should fix angle of bike.

OK doing a follow up on the side stand. Turns out to be the mount itself a 79.00 part. The only one I didn't do the tried and true "throw parts at it" approach with. Just glad too know it wasn't the frame even although I'd swear that a 25+lb raccoon hit at 55-60 shouldn't be able to bend a side stand mount , not on a proper english bike.

I have the same problem as Rashnak. My bike stands too straight up, so I usually use the center stand. I don't trust the side stand.

Add another one with Rashnak and Brokebrute to the too vertical crowd.
