Answered my own question. I just purchased MotionX Drive and there is no ability to upload .GPX files.

Just wanted to follow up here in case anyone else has this problem. I got in touch with MotionX support and after some back and forth they just sent the GPX file back to me "corrected". Support guy said they uploaded it to GPSvisualizer.com and "optimized" it for MotionX use.

I am completely new to motion X (and any gps besides car based in-dash nav), I have two questions on issues that I am struggling with:

1.)I just downloaded multiple GPX files into my phone using drop and drag. Now everything is in the import folder, and so many of the routes use "01, 02, 03" as file names, how can I separate them into folders with their own name so I can keep tracks organized?
EDIT: Figured it out, you open the folder then click options at the top and choose move, create new folder, name it and tell it ok then click which tracks you want to move.

2.) How can I view multiple tracks at once? Many of them are setup with a 3 or 4 mile ride, and the end of each track I have to stop the bike, pull my gloves off, go into the import folder, find the next track and display it. Surely theres a way to load the next 7 or 8 tracks all on the screen without stopping?
Edit: Slight learning curve but the easiest way I found was to go to the map, choose the options menu at the top left of the screen, choose recorded tracks, then choose show tracks from whatever you named the route


What I have learned about MOTION X so far, a few key points:

1.) Don't get Motion X DRIVE or Motion X HD. Drive doesn't allow tracks and HD only allows 101 tracks. I have over 350 loaded onto Motion X GPS.

2.) They need to release an ipad version of Motion X so I can use my ipad when Im at camp to review the upcoming tracks for the next day.

3.) clicking the arrow at the center of the screen orients your heading however you want.

Motion X, plus Google Maps plus iPhone 6+ = good system
I had a great nav experience this weekend with a ride I planned from Michigan to Pennsylvania to get in some twisties. I planned the route with Google Maps, creating a "My Map" trace for the trip. To minimize the manual tweaking to find the twisties, I gave Google Maps intermediate points for routing. It only allows 8 points on each map layer, so I had to break the trip into four separate segments. Each segment was then exported as a KML file and converted to GPX (http://kml2gpx.com/). I used the email method to send these GPX files to Motion X on my iPhone. Easy-peasy.

This was my first trip with my iPhone 6+, Lifeproof case and bar mount system. I had to add a support and some Velcro to stabilize the phone, but it all worked well. My support was a 1/2" wide brass flat from the local hardware store - attached to my Ram mount with SteelPutty. I put a strip of Velcro on the back of the iPhone case that mated to the bar. The Lifeproof mount itself will keep the phone from falling off, but the bar/Velcro takes out the shaking.

We rode in some NASTY hard rain outside Cleveland and the Lifeproof kept the iPhone dry.

With the big screen of the iPhone 6+, following the trace on MotionX was easy. I do wish I could figure out a way to keep the location "you are here" triangle in the middle of the screen and let the map move. I can do this only with the map zoomed all the way out. Once I "+" toggled in to see more detail, the "you are here" triangle moved across a stationary map. I had to use my finger every few minutes to swipe the screen and keep the triangle on the map. I'd rather NOT have to do this in the future.

Any ideas??

you have to tap the arrow each time after swiping the screen to put it back into the correct mode to keep the "you are here" pointer in the middle. hard to explain, easy to do. :)

Thanks for posting! My concern is the other end of the spectrum, ie overheating on the phone. Any issues with visibility and heat in the bright sun?

I think the "Nuud" version of the Lifeproof case may help with cooling as the glass screen is left uncovered. I've ridden in full sun, low-90's temps with no overheat issues. Bright sun visibility is a minor issue, but not a concern for me.

Tried this on a test run on the way to work today - worked flawlessly. Google Maps - MotionX - iPhone 6+ - Lifeproof case> the combo to beat!

what sort of mount do you have your 6+ with case in?? Lifeproof don't make 1 for the 6+ case.

Sure they do. Lifeproof makes two cases for the iPhone 6+ - the "Nuud" and the "Fre". The Nuud has a seal around the touchscreen with no plastic over it. I like this one for less bulk and better chance to get rid of heat. For the bar mount, I started with the available "QuickMount" system:

To fix this jittery issue, I added a support and some Velcro to my setup (see above). It works great:


No more shaking and the main mount holds the phone securely. If the adhesive for the QuickMount plate is anywhere near as strong as a GoPro mount - it won't be coming off anytime soon. The QuickMount plate and Velcro do add some thickness to my case - but it is a good trade-off for me. My iPhone is my only nav/phone/music system, so I use it a lot.

RAM makes a great mount for it! It's much more secure than the one from Lifeproof.

yea, I have a Nuud case for mine but they don't make a mount or holder like they do for the 6. or even the iPad mini. I don't like that QuickMount system at all for more reasons than your video shows. It just looks very flimsy and poorly thought out to me.

ye, had one of those finger style RAM mounts for a 2 way radio once. first bump in the road and it went flying, never going to trust that style of mount again.

At this point, the only system sold by LifeProof to mount an iPhone 6+ is the QuickMount. I had a LifeProof case for my old iPhone 5 and liked their full-surround plastic bar mount system. (Funny - the LifeProof website shows their 6+ case as "coming soon", but I bought mine at Best Buy 2 weeks ago!)

Ram's website shows only the X-grip as an option for the 6+ with LifeProof case. They have the Tab-Tite for iPad/Lifeproof that looks close - but is not stated to be compatible with 6+. I have an X-grip and believe it will hold the 6+ w/LifeProof case reasonably well. I did have my 5 fly out of the X-grip on a nasty gravel washboard - so I've been looking for something better. The LifeProof QuickMount I have now seems a bit better - but still not ideal. We need a specifically-designed, full-plastic-surround holder from Ram.....

Have you tried Galileo Pro? If so, why did you choose MotionX over it?

Hmm....just downloaded Galileo Pro. I'll take a look. It looks like it will import KML directly from Google Maps, which would save a step over MotionX.
