Im sure all of us have a few good ideas or tips & tricks up our sleeves that weve accumulated over the years, to either make life a lot easier on the trail or get us home in a pinch, so I thought Id share a few of mine to start with & hopefully others will carry on & create a library of Big Kato bright ideas.



Scallop out the wheel hub axle tube to make it easier to replace your wheel bearings. Its kinda self explanatory if youve ever been on you knees in the shed cursing over trying to get bearings out.
Not my Idea, but glad i discovered it.




Rim pins....Ive been using em for years including my old 950 & theyre brilliant. A great alternative to rim locks & makes balancing wheels way easier. Not my idea either






20mm PVC tyre lever holder. A loop knot in a bit of shock cord secured to the luggage rack to hold em tight, works a treat.

+1. On the same theme. I've fabricated from roofing Zincalume a similar pre filter holder after talking with Craig Re his set up. Will get around to painting them black one day

I gotta scope out some of that flashing Tomdog, it looks the business for sure.

Here's a neat ultra simple little trick/tip I came up with in a pinch, which works so well in application, that it has since graduated to my every day use.



Utilizing Dirt Cheap Bungee Canopy Ties for on bike lashing purposes.

They make an awesome quick connect / disconnect mounting solution for smaller frequently removed bags.



Just slide the round stopper ball up, shorten the bungee knot & trim the excess if needed for a bit more tension.

My small 16.41L / 22.26L tail pack stays put loaded or empty even at track speeds.

Simple, Replaceable, & ultra affordable. A Jar of 10 can be purchased almost anywhere for roughly $2.50USD. If I need to leave the bike unattended for a while, it's super easy to put on and off even with poor light and gloves on.

*I personally find it extremely useful. Especially so in urban areas, & it provides a nice clean look without having to manage a bunch of strap tails.

Not to bad, I had the same idea, but for another reason. My former black dog bash plate relocation got lose every 5000km, and I locktide every time. I figured out that the two bold mounting doesn't fix the relocator that well that it can holds the weight of the bike plus potentially the driver. What could be helpful is to make a third mounting point, for example at the tail frame mount bold. I do not have the opportunity to weld something so I had to build it up virtually first.









I used a sidestand of the 990 ADV because of the spring on the outside.

Have you expirienced a loss of stability with you constuction???

I moved on with my relocation kit as well. I got the oppertunity to make a prototype. My best friend fixed the bending issue with cutting a small spline at the bending line, bend it and weld all together. First fitment witout the BDCW skidplate went well and now I will powder coat it.























Still need the sensor to be mounted!!!



For the first fitment from scratch I was really surprised how well it went.

Like the idea of the side stand relocation. Unfortunately it looks like the spring goes on the outside? My only concern would be that it follows the 800GS design, and I continually found that my heel would hit the spring and cause the sidestand to go down when going over jumps and such, it hooked on rocks a few times and almost put me over the handlebars.

Try some locktite and bolts...see if it'll stay hooked up that way?

Cost me about $40 in parts.

There where a few members asking me to go for a small series concerning the relocation kit. I'm thinking of it. But I also want to build up an optional relocation bracket for those who don't have the black dog skid plate. So I cut off the skid plate mount in front of the bracket. But I'm still struggeling using the OEM sidestand which is obviously not the best choice for that mission!!!

I have to do a bit more R&D on the relocation bracket. I got a used 990 ADV sidestand for a low price. There are three diffrent versions available and I think I got one from 2011 990 ADV R with a lenght of 331mm but there is also a 349mm version for the 2007 to 2010 ADV S and a 301mm one for the Standard 990 ADV. I wanted to transfer my results one to one for the 1190 ADV R OEM side stand. But then I'll end up with a bad angle of the bike standing or instability. See the pix:







The leaning angle has to be optimised while using the OEM 1190 ADV R sidestand.

I figured out that I have to extend the lower side of my bracket by 20mm to use the OEM 1190 sidestand. Locks like you have it like that. How is the angle of the bike??? PIX please!!!!

What I can see, is that the OEM sidestand is hard to get in an optimal upper position where it doesn't interfer with the centerstand but still isn't to low! I will probably discard the idea of using the OEM sidestand for that reason and the inside spring position. So if I will go for a small series I stick to the 990 ADV R/S side stand, with 331mm length (but I have to verifiy that). But that would be a more expensive mission, because you need that parts new, if you could not finde a used one in good condition:

So potentially complete kit with everything you need to relocate the sidestand position by using the (correct) 990 ADV R/S sidestand will be around 200-250 Euro I would estimate. I do not know if that's worth it, to make a series!!!! We will see!

You guys are doing great R&D! Guess what? After seeing your post I looked on Ebay and found a new 990 331mm side stand so it's on it's way to Northern Ireland. If you want it for R&D let me know and I can probably get it sent to you instead.

I believe even at those prices people would buy from you because it opens up the complete range of bash plates with full protection plus the security of the safety switch. I'm in if you go for it!

I have to be honest, yesterday a bought a 2012 KTM 990 ADVENTURE R SIDE STAND on eBay as well from Lituania. I hope that I could verify and proof the sidestand I already installed to be the 331mm one. And at least I could build up a sidestand relocation for the non-BDCW skidplate like the Altrider one on my first bike. But thank you ICERIDER for the offer, I really appreciate that.

As you have probebly seen it I would include the the lowering footpeg option.

I have spoken to my friend and he will support me in the case of bending and welding the non-BDCW relocation bracket prototype with the free cuts for weight reducing.
