A good deal on MSR Alterra adventure jackets

If you're looking for a low buck bargain adventure jacket here is a deal.

I just went to Iron Pony and bought two of these:



MSR Alterra for $99.99. Black is available too for the same price. Got one for me and one for a friend.

The sizing is fairly true. I am a 42 chest (and waist unfortunately) and a Large fit fine, probably would need an XL to fit over any sort of armor. Decent sleeve length, a fair number of vents, waterproof, sealed waterproof zippers on the vents, armor that is removeable, all in all a darn good deal at a C note. I wish it had a zip in liner, but again, for a C note.

Actually, it might. I have a First Gear Kilimanjaro in a 2X that fits perfectly. But, it's a generous American cut. How does the MSR compare? I'm 6'2" 270.

Went for an XL to use with armor, hopefully not too big. Thanks for the heads up,,,,

I'm in, and I didn't even need a jacket. When it comes to moto clothes I'm getting as bad as a woman and shoes.

Reportedly from other sites such as Adventure Designs,they run large.
Some sites recommend ordering down a size,so that 2xl may in fact fit as 3xl.

I think the large I got gave me plenty of room in spite of being, how shall we say delicately, fat!

My wife thinks I'm that way, but the thing is I use most of the stuff and tend to not want to throw anything away. Last coat I got was two years ago, an outback style duster to have a long windproof/waterproof coat to wear in the winter when shoveling the drive and all... plus it kinda looks cool. Before that it was like four years when I got a $25 textile armored jacket at IP, about a year before that I blew all of $50 on a clearance First Gear Kilmanjaro Air. Seems they were either mis-sized or something was goofy, a small fit me! So it's not like I get nuts.

I am the same with shoes, I wear several pair so I don't wear the same ones daily, the old axiom - two pair worn in rotation will last more than twice as long as two pair worn one pair at a time... besides they don't get stinky! Glasses - same, I wear five different pair since the prescrip is the same or close. Insurance buys a pair every 2 years. Why not? Different pair for different moods or image projection.

Ha! I'm only like this with motorcycle related stuff. I've used the same pair of sunglasses frames through several prescriptions. I think the frames are something like 15 years old. So old, they've gone out of style and returned to in style. Same with shoes, I tend to find something I like and wear them until they're wore out. Moto clothes I see a sale and.......

I actually searched out the old (since 1952) Shuron Rensor Zyl glasses, seems they keep coming back in style. I wanted them because my high school chemistry teacher wore similar glasses (as did my grandfather in the 60s and my uncle in the 70s).



Not because Johnny Depp, Malcom X, or anyone else wore them or that they were in style, but because I wanted a pair - being a teacher and all. They've made the same thing since 1952 and I like 'em.

I also found a pair of glasses like George Reeves wore in the old Superman TV show. Love it! Like my Chuck Taylor high tops - Make a Statement!

Just picked one up for an extra. It's worth a shot.

I wear a Klim Latitude and love it...but this sure is tempting at $99...

I'm usually a solid 3x. I was astonished when the 2x fit well. And after wear it fits even better. With all the vents open it is also roomier.

I wouldn't hesitate to purchase again for the $400 I paid. For a hundo I may buy a couple more.
