I am. On my 15 RT. I love them they are very nice light for the price.

Here is the thing though, why does someone pay 1000.00 for a set of lights and then want to dim them? I run my D2's full bore day and night. Why not? I also bought the yellow covers and use them in fog or when I feel like it. They look great as true fog lights with the yellow covers. While I can dim them in ten steps, I never do.

And to the gentleman who is throwing out the ezCAN because of the 3 wire CW lights. Did you contact ezCAN? Not sure what the third wire does but I would think if you just did not hook it up or ran it with the hot wire the dimming from the ezCAN would work no issues. Again not sure why you pay 1000.00 bucks for lights and then run them as 250.00 dollar lights? The people at ezCAN are very tech savvy as their GS-911 and now the ezCAN shows. They know a bit about BMW CanBus.

The D2 puts out 3096 Lumens each. I want all I paid for throwing light down the road. Night and Day. You will not blind anyone if you align your driving lights correctly.

LAFS - I am the one moving from the ezcan to the canopener - I don't know if you drive with your highbeams in your vehicles during daylight hours - I don't and I am not fond of drivers who do - perhaps not so much with motorcycle riders but with, notably pick'em up trucks, highbeams during daylight are annoying and unnecessary.
I will use the lights at 100% during the day light using the flash pass and strobe with the horns and then at night on 100% highbeam. Normal DRLs during daylight.
When the manufacturer of the Clearwater lights suggested an issue with the ezcan, that was sufficient for me to move from the ezcan to the canopener - I think the ezcan is a superior system with the ability to update via computer, etc, but, like a lot of electronic companies these days, they don't fully integrate with some of the other players in the market. I have no doubt the folks at hexcode will find a solution down the road. I purchased the ezcan from Ted at Beemer shop who has been very helpful and is very knowledgeable and also holds the folks at Clearwater in high regard. I am confident he will provide the feedback to hexcode and, hopefully, an update to the ezcan will ensue that would allow full functionality and integration - I also think if the aux lights are properly adjusted for distance driving, one will be annoying the average driver using full power all the time - and perhaps that will be the ultimate issue - how do we have our aux driving lights installed? Having older eyes, I need distance lighting, not fog lighting so my set up is probably different than yours.

Never would drive with high beams in daylight, just makes no sense. I really was not thrilled with daytime running lights on cars as mandatory, but live with it.

To me it was not that long ago when I had to turn on a headlight on my motorcycle it did not just come on like magic after it started.

I run my D2 full power at all times, In daylight to be seen. At night to see distance and also to be seen. I am pretty fussy with alignment and probably aim lower to make sure I blind no one at night but still get distance. The covers are for when it is foggy as yellow is the only light that allows one to see in fog. 99.9% of the time they are off and I am running strait driving lights.

I have been out in dead night black country roads and have no need to turn my high beam on with the D2's running.

I run my D2 on a Ilium Works crash bar and I think there is another point needs mentioned is mounting height. Under mirror mounts are going to be dead on when aimed with little forgiveness to mis alignment and blinding on coming traffic. Down lower and alignment is a little bit more forgiving.

When I see these new cars and the LED lighting in them they are bright and to me blinding so I am aware and try not to blind anyone. I wont even start with the crappy HID retrofits I see some of these Rickey Racers that blind me at night.

Like I say I find the dimming the least of the ezCAN functions and I really would not miss it as it will never be used by me. To others it may be needed for specific reasons like you have mentioned.

Anyway wish you well and we all have different needs and wants of our bikes.

Agree with you 100% - the ezcan is, in my view, a superior platform for functionality, ease of installation and future updates; to install the ezcan with the Billie brake light and the Denali horn was extremely easy. I should be installing the canopener tomorrow/Friday and it involves installing a horn relay - don't need one with the ezcan - etc. Had I not pulled the trigger on the Ericas, I should have throttled back and bit and try to see if hexcode could come up with a solution - but not to be - I'll be mounting them under the mirriors, so they'll sit a bit higher and should give me the needed reach at night if I can get them dialed in. We both are trying to make ourselves more visible and safer amongst the cagers and approaching with slightly different platforms and I would suspect we could swap bikes and be equally pleased with each bike - now, if the damn deer will respect the strobe set up, I will be thrilled as they scare the snot out of me.

Ok, I'm sold. As for the back light. I'm looking at the P3 lights so I don't think the Ezcan will be much use there.

Edit: Well, actually. The Ezcan might be of use back there as well. I like that it can light up the additional brake lights if I roll of the throttle. I use engine braking a ton. Have to think how I would wire that to work with the P3 lights.

Yes here in PA we are Number Three with a Bullet on Deer Strikes in the entire Country! They (horned rats is what we call them) scare the snot out of me also. I grown up here my entire life of 60 years and driven around them for 45 years. Hunted them for 20 years to do my part. There is nothing you can do except to try and see them. Unpredictable and travel in multiples.

On D2 dimmable. Rigid would not tell me if the ezCAN is compatible with their lights for dimming. They said the D2 is dimmable but would not say the ezCAN will do it. Kinda pissed me off with the double talk. Yes our lights are dimmable, many manufactures make dimmers for our lights, but we have not tried or endorse the ezCAN. ezCAN used D2's for a Test Mule! I even tried to ask if the were pulse width modulated (dimming) and got no reply. You would think Rigid would want to tell people that they can be dimmed with the ezCAN. On the other hand they do not want to leave themselves open if the D2 is affected long term.

Again the dimming is nothing to me. I think it is a waste of money to buy a light kit for 1000 dollars, that throws 7000 lumens and then dim to a 350 dollar light of 3096 lumens. Why just not buy a light kit that throws the amount of light you want? And if it really is a situation where you are blinding someone a quick push of the turn signal cancel button shuts them off.

We all have different needs so I can see going with functions you will use the most that is dictated by where and when you drive.

Oh and down range light is very important in the Moose States. You do not know big until your down range lights show a moose's belly that you would drive under and hit the biggest part of the animal with your upper torso and head. I love New England and Main in particular but was pretty scared running at night up there, Moose are very big. The locals will tell you people are decapitated in cars as that is where they hit the moose as they stand so high.

I have no horse in the race and own no stock in CW or ezCAN :-)

Not sure if you have the newer D2 "Driving" version, but I have the older D2s with a beam that is not cut-off. SO, I do pi$$ off some drivers in lower light conditions. I love my D2's, but since I've traded up for a GSA with its own fogs, the D2s are sitting in the garage wasting away! The EZcan might be a really good way to get them back in the game.

Also.....without the EZcan, i cant shut mine off so easily as just hitting the sig cancel button!

On price....Who payed $1000 for D2s? a pair with harness can be had for way less than $400! ????

IMHO, NOT dimming when in traffic is a very douche move. Either turn them off, and lose conspicuity, or dim them and have usable conspicuity lights day and night, and high power when needed at night away from traffic.

If you have the "driving" version of the D2, or other DOT approved light, the beam is cut-off below eye level to oncoming traffic, so dimming is moot.

Not unless you aim your lights so low that they are useless in the distance. It is no different than DOT headlights high beams. Your not going to get distance without blinding oncoming traffic, it is just not possible.

I do have the driving version on D2's. They have a cut off and you align as you would a headlight. Distance from a wall and height of the beam center. That is how I aimed mine and stayed lower on the height.

I was referencing the Clear Water Lights for 1000.00 dollars a set. Again no knock, but pretty stiff entrance fee. I know a bunch of guys who run them. I understand they are indeed bullet proof.

My D2's were 295.00 on Amazon. That was with a harness and relay. They run a Y harness, both lights on one connection. I cut it and used each 10A on a separate side. I will never want anymore light. And as never always is fluid, I can get them on the ezCAN if it comes to it.

So with the 170.00 something ezCAN you could run two pair of D2's , one pair on each of the two 10A channels. And have those come on at % dim for each channel, and for if it is day or night.

That still gives you two 4A channels, one for a horn or whatever, and the other is the Brake/Flash/Deceleration channel.

I love the strobe on horn, it works. I like that when I use a turn signal that side driving light goes out so it does not wash out the amber turn signal. New cars do this. You can strobe flash to pass, three quick pulls on the trigger and they are doing the strobe as long as you hold it in. Never used it and have not thought of the right scenario when I would but it is cool. Turning them off pushing the turn signal cancel is very cool. And yes I can use the wonder wheel and dim the D2 lights. Being able to use any led rear light to get deceleration and flashing brake lights is nice. Setting how sensitive the deceleration rate is nice. Turning off the flashing brake light is pretty cool also if you ride in group rides. The integration into the controls is intuitive and second nature after a few rides.

Nice stuff either way you go. I have to weigh how much do I use/need/want something. In that order. I have plenty of toys on my bike but a fixed income does not allow me to just want something and have it like in the good old days :-)

I am very happy with my ezCAN and my D2's. The price fit my wallet and the results are more then I could ever have wanted. I am in under 500.00 bucks with Yellow lens that I can use for fog when we have it. Like I said we all have criteria for what we use on our bikes, and why we use it, this is why I chose these products.

Again I am not paid or own any stock from D2 or ezCAN and have no personal experience using or running Clear Water products.

    YMMV

I would think as long as you can hook both up and do not exceed the bikes output rating why not?

The ezCAN CAN run up to 28A on paper. 2 channels at 10A and 2 channels at 4A.

I am not sure what the Canopener allows Amp wise?

I do not have the spec of the output of our electrical system at hand but that would need to be checked.

Then do you have a pigtail for heated clothing? Any other electrical toys plugged in?

CanBus in a very simple term is like a network, it has devices connected to it and everything can talk to each other when needed. Very simple analogy but it is what the basic premise is.

I would be interested in the results if you try it. I do not think you could hurt anything just may need a GS-911 to clear faults if you throw something.

If you just wanted to run CW lights and use the canopener to control those and the ezCAN to add other lights and horn and Deceleration Brake light I would think no issues, but who knows?

Would there be issues on two "calls" to the wonderwheel at the same time who knows. Logic would say yes, but it does a bunch of stuff as is but only in relation to what is chosen in the menu window, but maybe it (canbus) can handle FIFO (first in first out) calls?

I would ask both vendors but would start with ezCAN in asking. Only because they seem to know a great deal about reading and using the canbus and may be able to help you eliminate one or the other device based on your needs.

Interesting question and would love to hear the answer if you find out. Me I would use one or the other.

Seems if you have invested in CW lights you would want to run their device on them.

Haven't check out the software yet. But I was planning on hooking up two BD Squadron lights to the EZcan's two high outputs. I already have a Rigid 6" light bar on the bike that I would also like to hook up to the EZcan. The Amp draw on the light bar is only 2.2 Amps. Is there an option to make one of the 4 Amp connections on the EZcan work as an additional light function? ex: different light output on high./low beams
