This is for those who don't frequent the Trials forum, but may be interested.
The other threads in the Rockies were pretty old so I thought I would start a new one.

Upcoming event on Feb. 12, 2017 at the San Ysidro Trials area (BLM).
Free spectating, bring your hiking shoes and lunch (no amenities).
Directions and more info. here: http://nmta.weebly.com/

Fair warning, the access road to the parking area has some deep sand so a high clearance vehicle is recommended. So far my 2wd has been making it through OK.

    Schedule:
    Feb. 12 San Ysidro, NM
    March 5 San Ysidro, NM
May 6 Gallup, NM (fun trial)
    May 7 Gallup, NM
    June 3 & 4 Sipapu, NM
July 8 & 9 Lake Fork Canyon, NM (FR376 Santa Fe NF)
August 6 Pajarito Ski area, Los Alamos, NM
Sept. 2 & 3 Lake Fork Canyon, NM (FR376 Santa Fe NF)
Sept. 24 Copper Hill (near Dixon, NM)
Oct. 7 & 8 Haystack OHV park, Roswell, NM
    Nov. 5 San Ysidro, NM
    Dec. 3 San Ysidro, NM

Thanks, Wendell. What time do folks start riding? I see registration is at 8, but that's it. Might bring some family up to see trials for the first time. :)

Hi Ryan, long time no see!
Lower classes start at 9 am and the upper classes start at 1 pm normally. Pack a lunch and check out the end of the lower classes and catch the beginning of uppers.
Hope to see you there, I'll be riding in lowers in the morning and usually help score the upper classes in the afternoon.
Have you ridden your mountain bike there?

Sections should all be good and makes a good hike through some beautiful canyons! Loop is probably about 1 to 1 1/2 miles for morning and afternoon riders. Hoping for a good rider turnout for our first event of the new year!! :ricky:ricky:ricky

It's the long section on the road through the deep sand from Hwy. 550 to the pit area! :lol3

Actually Kim, it's not that bad on a bike like yours. The sand is only in the first 50 yards or so of the road and might require a bit of paddling but after that it is hard packed to the pit area. It's more of an issue for low clearance 2wd vehicles and small cars as the 'hump' in the middle of the road (between the tire tracks) gets kind of tall and will high center smaller vehicles. They will still get many RV's and campers in there Friday night I presume.

Good to know. Weather permitting I'd much rather ride than drive every time. :D

Hence the use of the tall 'hump' in the middle of the road for said paddling! :deal

Thanks for the details, Wendell. I have not ridden the mtb out there. I've actually only been once before to observe a trials event years ago. I think a group of us did the Puerco to Cabezon and out to 550 on motos, and the event was our lunch break. Miss riding with all you guys. I'll work on that!

Next event this weekend! March 5th, 2017

At San Ysidro, NM again. Sign up at 8 am, lower classes should start at 9am with a break for lunch and upper classes starting at 1 pm.
There is an event for Juniors during the lunch break for those of you with little ones.

    Weather is looking good!

Club site with more info: http://nmta.weebly.com/

The first part of the dirt road is still crappy (deep, soft sand) at the at last check, the BLM hasn't done anything for it yet. High clearance recommended (or dual sport).
