So disappointed...was hoping to try the Mitas E12

With one importer of the Mitas range of tires in Canada, we are held hostage somewhat but when speaking with them last month, inquiring about the E12 for the back of my SE, I was told "I'm bringing the E12 in this coming season and they'll be very well priced" - what a joke...$215 CAD plus 13% taxes puts this tire at about $20 more than the Michelin desert race and about $65 more than what I can buy the 908 for. I'm disappointed, need to find a better source for Mitas and maybe put together a group buy here in Toronto so we can share on the cost of shipping. Anyone have any ideas about better priced sources for these? The guys in the UK are paying the equivalent of about $70 USD for these.

Yes i aggree, they are a very expensive tire...

I tried the e09 Dakar on my 640 once, which is basically a narrow carcus version of the e12, and found it to be a great tire that lasted a long time. But would still give a slight edge to the 908 traction wise. And with the 908 price that I can get from Pete's Super Bikes in Montreal ($154), it's a no Brainer!

I actually love my Pirelli scorpion rally race on the rear of my bike bike. I find it even better than the 908 for off road and road traction but it doesn't last nearly as long as the 908. This E12 was supposed to be the golden goose.

I like the E09 well enough, but will probably go back to the Shinko 805 based on price. I'm having a hard time telling how the E12 is different from the pictures.

I believe the E09 and E12 look almost identical but I understand the differences are:
1- tread bock height (taller on the E12)
2- compound / composition of materials
3- carcass design

At least that is what I've read about and been told...A bunch of guys in the UK have been testing them (including one Brit who ran Dakar this year) and reviews have been glowing...

Maverick in Canada was recently set-up as a Mitas distributor. Might be worth a call.

I only wish this tire was available in a 150/70/18 - Ive got the stock WIDE rim on my 990....

What do you think will happen if you run a 140?

A very flat tire profile due to being stretched way to wide. 140 is specified for a 3.5" rim. Mine is 4.25". Flat profile can lead to some funky handling when cornering.

You've tested this theory of yours I take it?

Have not run one on the V8 yet but had a couple of E12s on the 690,good tyre that is much easier too fit than the E09
Slight differance also in block pattern E12 got green stripe)

Do some research. it's fact not theory. Not to mention common sense. And look at manufacturer specs. And yes I have on a variety of bikes and tires over the years though not with these specific tires.

This is a big negative...140 will work fine.

Run D908 on stock 950 adv rims with no flat profile or funky cornering...

Glad to hear that. But older 950s had narrower rims...I forget which year it changed though.

I stand corrected!

I forgot I have the crazy old safety beaded rims, which I beleive actual might be 4.0". Think the rim change happened on the 2005.5s.

So youve never tried a 140 on your 4.25 rim but your an expert on how they behave??

This isn't a pissing match. Do what you want I prefer not to and wish this tire was available in a size specified for my bike.

I also run a 140 on the wide rim without any issues. It's round and corners fine, even when worn. (Kenda big block)

I'm running a 140/80 on my 950, 4 in rim I believe (04 bike). It's a little flatter than the 150 and a little taller, but the same load and speed rating. Tons of people run 140/80 meant for a 3.5 in max rim, so I wouldn't sweat it. The biggest issue is trying to get it seated when running tubeless.

*edit* My Karoo3 in 140/80 is probably still rounder than a K60 scout or an E07 in 150/70. Those are pretty much car tires.
