This is another bike insurance thread. My cover with Insure My Ride is coming to an end soon, because the parent company is reducing its number of sub-companies. They have offered me insurance with Shannons . Slightly lower premium, but higher excess by $100. Obviously a lot of riders will be affected by this measure, so I am wondering where the best cover is to be found?
Hey XRman, yep was directed to Shannons but they a bit dearer. Ended up with Swann Insurance for both KTM 990/450 which was comparable to ISM.
I'm with AAMI, never claimed on the bike with them, but have with the car, and they've always been good. They were the best price for me as well Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
I had the same thing with one of the others (Bikenow? Can't remember) and ended up with QBE who bought their client list. Had one claim with them, and they were excellent. One phone call to lodge the claim, no paperwork. $530 for the 1200 GS, might shop around next year because it's been a couple of years since I checked. Cheers Brian
When i had my XR650R, i spoke to Suncorp who could not give me the amount of cover i was after. I have a heap of insurance policies with them. They directed me to Shannon's whom they said they own, but for some reason were not interested in giving me the agreed value that there sub branch could.
I'm with Shannons Kym, haven't compared for awhile but they did look after me quite well with my 1190.
I was quite happy with the IMR service after my two crashes a few years ago. One the bike got slighlty damaged and the other one it landed on me! They couldn't believe that I was just claiming for the riding gear the ambos cut off me.
Same here, people are always trying to save a couple of bucks on premiums and don't think about pay out time. Read the fine print, I had a bike insured for '$7K or market value'. Market value was $5K, so that would of been the payout, but I was paying the premium for $7K
The pensioners mob, APIA is worth a look if you're over 50, which I gather most are :) Had 2 bikes with them at agreed value. Premiums are comparable with others but am on a discount rating as other stuff with them too. Haven't had a claim so can't comment on that side of it. Should be ok though as they're another offshoot of Suncorp.
ALL are Suncorp... same underwriter, same basic conditions and contract-definitions for all of them. Comb the PDS-docs carefully and thoroughly!! (and be surprised?) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AAMI Swan is IAG (MaxiRider in NZ) QBE is a standalone
Was Shannons, now QBE. From 2 years ago: "My enquiries with Australian insurance companies: YMWV due to neighborhood, your profile etc. Fully Comprehensive ($16,000 agreed value) Suncorp website: $740 Shannons phone: $530 QBE phone: $435 Swann website: $426 InsureMyRide: $385 You i phone: $240 I wouldn't touch the last one after dealing with their high pressure sales tactics on the phone..."
Refused me twice so far when I stated I was not retired and clearly said it is for retired over 50's only.
