Eating Establishments in British Columbia

I enjoyed a fabulous Steak Dinner this Fall in Williams Lake BC at Mr Mikes Steakhouse, located downtown. Their house beer was cold and delicious. The hospitality and service was excellent. The steak was cooked perfect, tender n tasty! Doesn't get any better after a day on the road!

The Island Pub/Restaurant and Big Bend Café in Golden B.C. are two of my favorite stops.

Big Bend Café won me over when they had very strong and fresh brew Kicking Horse Grizzly Claw coffee when I first ventured in a few years ago. The food was also amazing. I try and go there for breakfast every time I drive/ride through.

You know....I've been more and more impressed with Mr Mikes every time I've gone there. I had their rib eye steak with all the fixings last time I was there and it was excellent. This was the Prince George restaurant.

You did better than me. I ordered a steak at their Hinton, Alberta location back in September and it was rotten. Literally, the meat was off.

However... if you've got a Grrrr on in the Slocan Valley, Mama Sita's Cafe in Winlaw is a winner.

Breakfast menu doesn't miss with a huge variety of offerings to suit most and varied tastes... and dietary restrictions. Smoked Salmon and Capers Eggs Benedickt is my personal favourite. To - die - for and easily the best in the area. Chorizo sausage is pretty swell, too. Something on the menu for every taste. Friendly, helpful and attentive staff keep things moving and pleasant.

Daily dinner specials are a nice compliment to the regular menu which again, is varied and very well prepared. The folks running this place love it and you can tell. They go the extra mile to create a nice atmosphere for their customers to enjoy good food. It's a community favourite.

I worked for a few years down in Chilliwack, we often ate at Mr Mikes there. It became a regular place for us as the food was always great, I have always enjoyed their Antler Ale, the service was tops, welcoming and efficient. Nice to see a BC Restaurant franchise that one can count on to deliver at multiple locations.

Chilliwack Mike's? Got one of their former Chefs a few years ago to work with us.Red Seal certified in Calgary Alberta and only work experience was a couple years at Mike's in Chilliwack.

What a dirty pig....he may have gone back to work at Mike's after we managed to boot him off?

We try to stop there every year when we go to Nelson for the DUCwc Mountain Rally. Great food, I will second the choice of their Eggs Benedict.

Pretty fine line between simply perfect and simply.....putrid.

Mr Mikes in Prince George is very good.
My wife and I eat tbere fakrly often and we have never gotten a bad meal.
The service is goid as well.
Once my wife tried a new dish on their menu and did not really like it. It was prepared properly but she just didnt care for it much.
At the end of tbe meal the waiter asked how everything was and my wife said she would not be ordering that dish again and they took it off the bill.
Now it wasnt their fault as it was prepared correctly she just did not really care that much for it and she had eaten it.

Haven't been to a Mr. Mike's in years... had a good one in my hometown of Port Alberni about 30-40 years ago. The line-ups on a weekend were out the door.
The last one standing around here was in Parksville, which lasted until the late 80's IIRC.
Damn, I can still taste the Mike Burger. Delish.

A great spot for halibut and chips is Mr H in Wells.
Wells is just before the old gold mining restored town of Barkerville.
Mr H is in a little trailer on the right.
in Wells. It is the best I have had with nice thick pieces of halibut.
The road to Wells is a beautiful ride as well and very twisty.

Best chocolate Moose I ever had was south of Wells.Somewhere on the long dusty and rocky road to Likely.

Halibut Fish&Chips in Wells? I'll try them next year.Wasn't hungry last time from the Moose.

But altough not theorically in BC, one has to hit the bus in Hyder sometime for Halibut Fish&Chips.

Mr. Mike's in downtown Langley through the 60's, 70's, until the late 80's was legendary. I'm honestly going to have to check them out again, it's been 20+ years.

Mr. Mikes seems to be a going thing again. There's one in Chilliwack, one in Kamloops, and they're building one in Vernon. Hey Steve, is that your collection of Kawasaki's in your avatar? If you're collecting, I've got an '84 GPz750 that I've had from new that needs to find a new home.

I bought the GPZ750 in 1982, and sold it in 1990. The '84 GPZ750, that's the water cooled model right?

Nope, air cooled, 2 valve.

Unitrak rear suspension?

You bet! We bought it brand new in '85. It's got a Supertrapp exhaust, Corbin Gunfighter saddle, DynoJet stage 1 kit, Progressive Suspension fork springs and a Barnett clutch pack. I am told that because these are "period correct" mods, the bike would still qualify for collector plates. The bike has been stored, under cover in our garage since I came home with a GS back in 2006. It was stored with the cylinders oiled, the gas tank full, and the carbs drained.

Not too many "one owner" bikes like this out there any more. I always took very good care of it, and have intended to restore it and ride it when I can, but that has just never happened and I don't see it happening any time soon, as I hardly have time to ride either the GS or my dirt bike these days. It's a really nice example, and deserves to be enjoyed.

Nice bike. Not on my list of machines to restore.
